Shortwave. HF Radio. High Frequency

What websites have SDR receivers online that are based in Queensland?

Curious to gauge coverage of 4KZ on 5055

Hi guys, picked up one of these from Jaycar. World Band AM/FM/SW PLL Radio | Jaycar Electronics. Cannot find any Shortwave stations to try and listen in too, does anyone know of any SW stations that should be easy to pick up? Tried the BBC World Service from Asia Pacific but I got nothing…

If you’re on the east coast, tune in 10000kHz. WWVH time signal station in Hawaii. Puts in a reasonable signal at night.

Latrobe Valley, Victoria, so sort of on the East coast but not right on the coast

It’s worth a shot I think. Sadly there aren’t as many SW stations around these days compared to 20 years ago.

are there any others around then or just the one? because I got nothing on 10000

Not that I can think of off the top of my head but a Google search may come up with something. Alternatively, play around with the dial and you may come up with something.

Try around 9,7XX - like 9760.

Radio New Zealand International (now RNZ Pacific?) maintains a presence on the SW bands. The broadcasts are targeted to the Pacific islands but are easily receivable on the east coast of Australia. Check their website for the frequencies and times.

Overwhelmingly you’ll find Asian language programming (mainly the Chinese languages) on SW at night. The ubiquitous China Radio International is often the only English voice, apart from RNZ Pacific.

Yeah I did search the dial and the Chinese Mandarin Stations were all in this group on 98XX kHz. Couldn’t find NZ or Hawaii but I think I probably will when I next go to Sydney. I videoed it but I cannot figure out how to upload mp4 here. Then again it’s pretty self explainatory. I’m hoping to find the English Communist Propaganda channel so I can see just how bad it is.

5055 kHz is a rebroadcast of 4KZ from Innisfail in FNQ. Receivable at night in Victoria on a Sony ICF-SW7600GR.

I’ve been trying for 4KZ all night now and I’ve only logged it a couple of times.

You’ve done well Cranky. I’ve tried a number of times on the same receiver but never heard it. But in Port Douglas it was really strong! :grinning:

In the wake of a very interesting night last night shortwave-wise does anybody know of any Daytime frequencies that are heard or even targeted Victorian way?

I got out the shortwave game a few years ago. My vintage DSE 2832 was put away not long after the death of radio Australia and has not been pulled back out. Now I do all my listening online. I know it’s not the same and there is no challenge but there is really not much in English on the bands here anymore.

Well tonight was even more interesting I found 2 english stations! The first was a strong signal with no interference on 11760 which I identified as the English version of China International Radio and the 2nd was Radio NZ. Hoping tomorrow I will find some during the day but it appears I am more successful at night

New finds tonight:
Managed to log the Hawaiian time station Morse code on 10000 kHz.

Once again logged China Radio International on 9760 kHz
