Hard to believe about 6-7 years since McMillan and Kubainski were dropped by 9, wow.
After the introduction of Tipping Point at 4pm, it quickly became obvious that it should move to 5pm pushing the WA First bulletin back to 4pm. That then started to impact the Nine News Perth numbers.
Nine Adelaide still a concern. It just can’t get back the momentum it had 2 years ago.
These wins are based on Total TV viewing which includes BVOD. The tables we have been following are only broadcast TV viewing in an attempt to compare to the similar data from previous years. So not sure how closely this relates to that.
Update for week 25 from Nine
9News (Monday to Friday) was the No. 1 news bulletin for the week with Total People across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Week 26
Nine winning streak continues, on track for another win this week as the Seven News brand takes a battering especially in Sydney and Melbourne that were both down nearly 30%.
Comparison to Week 26 of 2023
This week last year Seven had 889,000, so for the second week in a row the numbers are down +100k. Nine News rated higher in every market.
At the 26-week market, Seven Adelaide and Perth have notched up 26 wins so cannot be beaten this year. Nine Sydney and Melbourne are on 25 wins.
Usually at this time Seven’s 5-city figure would also be 26 wins but this year it is 22.
Week 27
Nine ahead at this point of the week, on track for another win.
Comparison to Week 27 of 2023
This week last year Seven had 927,000 marking the third consecutive week with the bulletin down more than 100,000.
At the 27-week market, Seven Adelaide and Perth have won the calendar year based on weeks won. Nine Sydney and Melbourne are both on 26 wins so cannot be beaten, a major turnaround in Melbourne.
Week 28
Nine ahead at this point of the week, on track for another win.
Comparison to 2023
At this point of week 28 in 2023, Seven News had 954,000 while Nine averaged 779,000.
Congratulations to Nine News Sydney and Nine News Melbourne that are both on track to winning 27 weeks of the calendar year so are the number one news service in their respective cities on that basis.
Seven starting to be really challenged in Perth - down 18% while Nine is up 21%. Big week for Nine Brisbane as well.
Sharyn’s gone.
9 News wins Brisbane for years to come.
Week 29
I haven’t got the market breakdowns for the week. However, Nine News won the 5-city market for the 8th consecutive week by an increased margin. The margin in Total People was 110,000!
Across the 40-week survey period Nine News Sydney plus Seven News in Adelaide and Perth have all now won 21 weeks so have won the survey year based on that measure. Nine News Melbourne is expected to reach that milestone next week, currently on 20 weeks won (the bulletin has won based on the calendar year having won 28 weeks).
Unreal turnaround in Melbourne…

Nine’s weeknight news in Melbourne is averaging 268,000 viewers Monday to Friday, up 12 per cent, compared to Seven’s Peter Mitchell, who draws 228,000 viewers, down 16 per cent. It’s understood Mitchell has several years to go on his existing contract.
Nine has won 27 of 28 weeks in both the Sydney and Melbourne markets and is ahead in both markets for the weekend news.
Note that the article may have been written before the end of this week 29 as Nine News has won 28 out of 29 weeks now in Sydney and Melbourne.
The article fails to mention that Nine has now won 8 weeks straight in the whole 5city market.
Melbourne of particular concern this year, especially weekends (where Mike Amor and Rebecca Maddern weren’t exactly killing Alicia Loxley prior to this year it seems anyway)
Wonder if he only just re-signed last year or 2022, following his impressive ratings wins?
I don’t believe this. Who signs up a presenter up on a 7 year contract? Especially when you have Mike and Bec on weekends. Clearly this was done at a time when they knew Nine has no succession plan over at GTV and may have speculated Nine poaching Mitchell.
Where does it say the contract is for 7 years?
Week 30
Nine claimed the Melbourne market based on weeks won in the 40-week survey year with the bulletin passing 21 weeks yesterday for a amazing turn around.
The previous week Nine won Sydney while Seven won Adelaide and Perth . That leaves Brisbane where this week Nine was up 23% on this week last year as the impact of the sacking of Sharyn Ghidella is felt.

De Ceglie’s name is all over this one. Big fuck up.
It would be SO good if 10 somehow managed to get Sharyn on board for their news and bring over Paul as well.
Two loyal people and hard workers. I know my family would easily switch to 10 and others would too if they promoted it correctly.
As long as the different timeslot suited them. A lot of viewers choose 7, 9 or ABC because they’re just finishing work at 5.
