Seven Tennis Coverage

7QLD not in HD? You must be joking. It’s been 8 months since 7HD was revived.

New Seven Sport tennis production ender (caps).

Same theme as 2012-2016, just updated graphics:

[Aired at 12:03am AEDT on Ch 7].

I think the coverage is really missing Bruce, even though he knows nothing about tennis, spouts too many statistics and is too gushy and syrupy.

To go to that much effort, they may as well put in a little more and ensure those ads don’t get broadcast in areas which currently don’t receive a HD simulcast of the main channel.

I’m missing watching the bromance between Bruce and Jim.:joy:

Seriously yes it is weird not hearing Bruce’s voice and his special qualities…

To be fair, Basil Zempilas has done pretty well being the ‘main commentator’ and calling games alongside Jim

Yes, he’s done alright, but he comes across as a fill-in, which of course he is, so the coverage doesn’t feel right.

Garry Wilkinson, Peter Landy and Allan Stone don’t commentate these days?[/quote]

Pretty sure I heard Garry Wilkinson commentating tennis last week or this week, maybe online, and Allan Stone is doing the Kerber match online right now.

Channel 7 & 72 with the watermarks. Photo taken from Freeview app. They didn’t have the HD on the Red watermark.

Seven will be spewing with Kyrgios losing tonight. I’m kind of glad he’s out so they can stop gushing over him during the coverage.

Of course, but it’s not unknown for some players to choke in front of the home crowd pressure. I’m not saying that happened tonight (I missed most of the match), just remembering being in RLA early last year & hearing the huge pressure some of the, probably well-meaning, crowd were putting on (presumably unintentionally).

Really bad direction just now on the Tomic vs Estrella Burgos match on 7; cutting away both live & on-replay from the point just before a ball landed (in, out, I didn’t see), then a stupid camera angle (from the baseline) for an entire point. Argh!!!

I believe that all Production and direction is controlled by Tennis Australia and Seven takes the feed. Which is why occasionally there is a different transition graphic when the Seven director wants to show something specific that the 7 commentators are discussing.

Now I want the Prime Possum to replace him

Why did Mel not come on duty till 10 pm? There was bugger all going on by then.

Probably because they now realise Hamish is better (compaing the pair)?

Who are the hosts on 7Two?

I’m sure someone will be able to name them.

I think Dave Culbert is one?

news.com.au reporting that Ch 10’s BBL has had big wins on at least Monday and Tuesday night over Ch 7’s Australian Open, reportedly sparking headaches for the future of the Aus Open / Ch 7’s lead-in to MKR…

Steve Allan from Fusion Strategy says the 2nd week should prove a big hit for Seven.

Not that we didn’t know this from MediaSpy’s daily ratings anyway & Seven have still won every night

The situation with Kyrgios is worrying though

Not usual for the first week of the Open to have fairly ordinary ratings.

What a load of crap.

Yep, I agree.

I hope I worded that correctly.

But that’s what the article was making out / trying to say, based off Ch 10’s figures provided to them.

The tennis will always be huge. So good to see these up and coming Aussies :tennis:

You didn’t. You said:

The article quite clearly states “He (Allen) also believes the impressive performances from unheralded Australians, including 17-year-old Alex De Minaur, at this year’s Open will result in a ratings “scorcher” for Seven in 2018

And no mention or suggestion of an impact to MKR. So pretty much the opposite of what you wrote.
