Here in Britain, the Brisbane International was split among two networks: Eurosport for men’s tournament and BT Sport for women’s tournament. I assume they got them as part of the general rights deal with ATP and WTA respectively.
Loving the Fast4 comp in Sydney tonight (it’s on 7mate)
Social media loving it too.
Just a shame it’s not on the main channel. Last night’s Brisbane final rated very well on mate, indication should’ve been on main channel, could’ve probably done 600k-ish?
So Mel McLaughlin hosted both the Sydney International & Kooyong Classic (via on-site in Sydney)?
Did they both just interchange throughout the afternoon, as per previous years?
Two matches at Kooyong then went to Sydney.
Is this the first time ever that the AO draw has been shown on TV
I believe so, yes.
Looks great, stylish.
Seven’s relaunched graphics for 2018. The current graphics have been used for six years
Graphics are an improvement.
Are these definitely new seven graphics as opposed to a broadcast produced by Tennis Australia? They look good but just double checking.
I think they would be Tennis Australia’s graphics.
You can see Seven’s graphics which are the flat ones, that appear like this:
Yes, they’re TA graphics.
The draw wasn’t a Seven Sport production, they also just used Hamish.
Great to see it broadcast on FTA!
It used to be drawn on a Friday morning, which they used to show live and then save the Q&A interviews / feedback about the draw until the Sunday. This year they decided to move it to the Thursday night.
Also the first time the Australian Open draw is held at Melbourne Park and in front of a public audience.
It was awful. 40 minutes or more of waffling before any draw info. And then more waffling. They even spent a couple of minutes talking to Kevin Anderson about his draw. Meanwhile, there was live action in Sydney that they would normally have broadcast instead.
It’s all the rage now - “Slow TV” - after the success of The Ghan.
They should have done both draws first then have the interviews/analysis afterwards
Many tennis commentators thought it was grubby having a drug cheat as the drawcard.
