Seven & Ten News (SCA)

I’d be shocked if he was offered the sports presenting role on Seven News, but ended up turning it down.

stuff like that happens sometimes.

Last night Nick Kelly did a live cross about a gas leak caused by a car crash, but bizarrely Victoria Eastoe presented sport.

Bizarre because Nick couldn’t get back from a live cross 100kms away from the studio in 20 minutes or bizarre because he didn’t present sport live from a car crash scene?

Bizarre he couldn’t get back to the studio to present sport

It’s over an hour drive from the live cross location to the studio…

What was the time frame from presenting the live cross to the beginning of the sport segment? If it is indeed 100kms distance as noted above, that could be quite a feat to return to the studio and be prepped up for a live read from the desk?

Surprised they had him do a live cross instead of remain in the studio to present sport

Would you prefer they didn’t do a live cross from the biggest story of the day?

i think it’s implied that other reporters could have done it?

Yes that’s exactly what I meant. Victoria Eastoe should’ve done the live cross and Nick Kelly present sport.

Who knows, Nick Kelly was possibly out that way and could get there first. With roadworks and all other things and equipment packing up, walking to car etc… it would have been an hour and a half to get from the scene to the studio. It all happened and escalated very quickly - I was watching the ambulances and police cars go flying past my house on the highway which at the speed they were doing was reminiscent of the Hillcrest tragedy.
The state’s third largest city was heavily impacted with a car crash, multiple people injured including one choppered to Hobart which is pretty serious. Major power outages affecting thousands of people and a gas leak on what seemed to be a major piece of gas infrastructure. Certainly warranted a live cross and was actually the first footage that I and many others had seen after only hearing bits and pieces on Facebook. Not even sure if WIN covered it with anything at all or not.
