Seven & Ten News (SCA)

Polls have closed in the Rosevears legislative council election where former newsreader Jo Palmer is the favourite and currently leading in early counting of first preferences. Her main competition is Janie Finlay, a former mayor of Launceston and running as an independent where a lot of people vote for in the upper house in Tas.

At least Jo is doing one thing right: not being Basil Zempilas.

It looks like she’s won the seat. She replaces Kerry Finch who was an ABC broadcaster for years prior to his political career.

Some weird break down during Seven News Tas tonight static was playing and they have now gone to Seven Melbourne News

Not sure if Rach has decided to leave her mark on her final bulletin or if 7Tas is having major issues but it’s not a good night for them. Halfway through a story and it went to a snow screen from like the old analog days, a few minutes later a full ad break then back to snow for about 30 seconds and then back to another ad break and suddenly we’re now on the Melbourne news. Poor Rach if they can’t get this fixed.

A monumental power outage apparently as they have just posted to Facebook. Very quick to get a message out so well done to them!

The ghost of Jo Palmer haunting Rach’s last broadcast?

Looks like it could be a localised issue there though - possibly more than just a tripped breaker since they’re not back on yet though as there’s only 1 outage listed on the TasNetworks page and that’s for a small area of 80 customers in Sandy Bay in Hobart.

They just played the “Tonight’s weather brought to you by TankWorld” just before going to the sport but I think that’s a regular thing. 15 minutes to go, I don’t think they’re going to be back tonight unfortunately unless they manage to get back for the weather and a farewell for Rach otherwise they’ll probably have a package tomorrow or a message from her there. I do feel sorry for her, not a way to finish off but nothing she can do unfortunately.

There was a power outage in South Launceston during the “snow”.

Poor things, hope the techs aren’t there too late tonight, sounds like things have not gone well with the reboots. Probably some other techs getting calls tonight or preparing for a big day tomorrow if things are bad!

They had Rachel on ABC Northern Tasmania radio this morning discussing things, sounds like it went very pear shaped. No power to the control room and techs there until midnight and already there again this morning to find and fix whatever is the issue so they can get a bulletin to air tonight. I know they have the studio in Hobart, but would that rely on the control room in Launceston still or would they be able to do the whole thing from the South if needed or would that impact 7 Spencer Gulf?
The word unprecedented was used a few times and that was from people who had been at the station for decades but she’s sure the farewell package will be aired tonight with the blooper reel they’d compiled. The other thing she mentioned was that Sam was scheduled to do the weather last night and that is her brother which I hadn’t known.

Apparently not reading, Kim Millar reading but we’ll see how the rest of the bulletin plays out.

Poor Rach had to pad out on her last last night waiting for her farewell package to start!
