Geez, I didn’t know it was that bad. I don’t know anyone in my circle that would mispronounce that and we live nowhere near the east coast.

Its pretty crazy how that could happen

I think it’s fair that viewers expect their local news to be accurate. If we just ignore inaccuracies in news, we may as well just record some 12 year olds talking about what they heard at school today.

I don’t think members here are bagging them out for the fun of it or because they hate SCA or their presenters. We all want to see the noodles improve. I think there is a general understanding that this is a cheap news operation done for a low rating network that wants out of the TV business. But, this is the first time a Canberra style news update model has been produced out of a state of the art facility. I think some of us expect a little better. The mispronunciations are pretty terrible though, no matter how you want to spin it. You either want to present news and are at least somewhat versed on town names, or you don’t.

Does anybody have a recording of the Pannamatta one because I’ve never heard anyone call it that before - unless she couldn’t read it and at the time turned the r’s on the autocue to an n I can’t see how anybody would do that.

Belconnen pronounced incorrectly again tonight in the local update. Seriously, mispronouncing names once is bad enough but now it’s a daily drinking game.

I did wonder if it mean that presenter needs glasses, or if the autocue text can be made larger/clearer (changing the font/styling to something where the characters clearly look different even for someone with poor eyesight).

“Manika” Oval tonight.

The subtitles even said “Manuka (Man-i-ka)” :sob:

IMO, Grace Evans (the Regional Victoria SCA 10 News presenter) is one of the better presenters, along with Alex Sykes.

An angle on the Spencer Gulf bulletin?!

Did someone bump the camera?

I am also genuinely shocked.

Still using the same supers and graphics package they made back in 2014 even though Hobart has the updated graphics available. :expressionless:

Was it Belka-nen again?

Yeah, something like that.

how can you muck that up? I’ve never lived in Canberra but I know how to pronounce Belconnen

I know people who have called it Bel-co-nen which just sounds weird but apart from that I thought it was pretty standard but I’d like to see some samples of things and see if it’s just an accent thing or people just surprised that this is what happens when news gets produced out of regions - something many regions have already dealt with for years.
