They can bump up the value of the 2024/28 rights by throwing in the 2032 games that the networks will really want in with them too, especially as neither Paris or LA are that timezone friendly for the Aussie networks. The big events in Paris will be overnight, whilst they’ll be no live primetime events for LA.

I was thinking that too. Make it a requirement that they show 2024 and 2028 to broadcast 2032

In terms of timezones, LA (17 hours behind AEST during our winter) is better than Paris. Swimming and athletics finals will be shown daytime. Live events can be shown up to around 4pm AEST.

Tend to disagree - in Paris. athletics and swimming finals will be in the Australian morning and heats will be in the Australian evening. Those are ‘at home’ times.

Whereas in LA, the heats will be in the middle of the night and finals in afternoon when most of the population is at work. No live primetime coverage.

Bruce McAvaney was named the winner of Kennedy Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement, during tonight’s award ceremony at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse.

Bruce will probably continue until 2028 if 7 retains the Olympic rights. By the time LA 2028 arrives he will be 75 years old. A full circle for him since his first Olympics was at Los Angeles 1984.

I guess them having the rights will come down to the AFL rights and how much money is left in the kitty.

If they get the AFL I think they might lose more sports rights, if they can’t find another revenue stream.

Duel in the Pool broadcast is quite tacky. A massive downgrade on Amazon’s professional coverage…

Why is Australia red and the US blue?

Also, is it being switched remotely? Lots of camera movements (that aren’t meant to be seen) on shots.

Just tuning in now, and the whole coverage is just so amateur. The graphics are terrible and they seem to just cut to random cameras and not really show any useful camera angles during the races. Yes this event isn’t on the same level as say the national championships, but they could still do a far better job with the broadcast.

10 won’t be happy with this

Assuming the Nine Newspapers’ reporting is correct, 10 would only have themselves to blame considering they haven’t met Optus’ “financial expectations”.

One other point to note from the article Huss posted - Seven are reportedly in an exclusive negotiating period for Commonwealth Games rights. Considering the next CG will be Melbourne 2026, I would be shocked if they don’t get a deal sorted before the exclusive period ends.

7 will most likely take the Fox Feed while ESPN will use the MNF team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Would be interesting to watch both telecasts
