Wouldnt have anything to do with their joint operation of Racing.com?
It probably is.
One of the reasons why it was surprising they went with 10 for the Melbourne Cup.
Itâs really not that bizarre.
The article sends mixed messages about that. On one hand, it states at the beginning that 10 have made a âmore lucrativeâ bid for the rights. However, it later suggests 10 have merely made preliminary inquiries about potentially bidding for the rights.
Right I couldnât see it as I donât subscribe to news Corp rubbish.
You donât have to, there are other ways around it through here:
It even mentions 10 offering $25m over 5 years with Seven less than that.
Well⌠at least theyâre not like Cricket Australia.
That was a very bad deal.
With Network 10 unlikely to extend its Supercars deal past this season, could this pave the way for Seven to get the rights back next season?
I reckon this would prove a morale booster for the network given it lost the Melbourne Cup and Australian Open in the past 24 months.
Sevenâ situation isnât that great either.
All three networks are looking to reduce costs.

Herald Sun reports Moonee Valley Racing Club chief executive Michael Browell met with Sevenâs head of sport Lewis Martin yesterday and discussed the Cox Plate-AFL Grand Final clash on Saturday, October 24. Browell said:
I told Lewis of my personal preference that if the AFL Grand Final was held at night, we would run the meeting from midday to 6pm (AEDT) with the Cox Plate at 5pm.
The (MVRC) committee will meet next Tuesday (May 26), and then I need to know what the industry wants to do and Iâll pass both on to Lewis.
Then weâve got to find out when the AFL Grand Final is. If itâs on the same day, we will have a round-table discussion about how to handle the day.
An argument over nothing. Seven has four channels, put the racing on one of the other channels. And of course it will already be on the fifth channel anyway. There is horse racing on every Saturday so it has always clashed with the VFL/AFL Grand Final.
Itâs not The Melbourne Cup, so I donât see what the problem is.
However not usually a metropolitan meeting let alone a group 1 (along with the remainder of the card) race.
Most racing and sport fans would hold the Cox Plate in a higher regard than the Melbourne Cup.
There is racing in Victoria every AFL Grand Final Day however itâs usually a provincial or midweek standard meeting. The black type races (Group, Listed) are held on the Friday night and Sunday to avoid a clash.
Plus this year is the 100th running of the Cox Plate. So itâs a bit important this year
Shift the Cox Plate,
Footy is more important
I disagree. Why should it move from the date that it has always been planned to be ran and normally that last Saturday in October because some other sport wants to play their Grand Final on the same day.
Imagine if it was the other way around. God for bid something clashes with the last Saturday in September and calls for the game to be moved. It wonât be allowed.
I donât see the problem with both events running on the same day. Itâll probably only happen once.
Would be convenient if Seven had two HD channels to run both simultaneously.
Oh.
Problem is thereâs only one main channel. Seven needs two main channels.
Canât they run the Cox Plate during half-time? Surely that would be a win-win situation?
