INTRUST SUPER SHUTE SHIELD (RD 3)

The 2017 Intrust Super Shute Shield Season is well and truly in full swing. Those that anticipated an unpredictable and exciting season were certainly right with some interesting results already!

Viewers that tuned in to 7TWO on Saturday were treated to a great day at Forshaw Rugby Park for Ladies Day. Southern Districts bounced back after a Round 1 defeat, beating Randwick 39-14.

There is plenty of club rugby action to look forward to this Easter weekend with Norths and Southern Districts to kick off Round 3. This is sure to be a cracking day of rugby at North Sydney Oval on Good Friday. With the NSW Waratahs having a bye this weekend, we have plenty of players rejoining their old club rugby teammates.

On Saturday, our broadcast match of the round is Manly v Southern Districts LIVE from Manly Oval. After missing the playoffs last year, Manly have started their 2017 Intrust Super Shute Shield campaign with a bang with impressive victories over Southern Districts and Sydney University.

“The most positive part is that I still don’t think we’re attacking as well as we could be. We’re scoring some good tries but I still don’t think we’ve clicked yet, so that’s exciting," Manly flyhalf Sam Lane said.

On Saturday, they host a Parramatta side that will be boosted by the inclusions of Waratahs David Lolohea and Senio Teleofoa. The Two Blues have added plenty of class to their side this year and will be desperate to claim their first win of the season, after letting a five-point lead slip against Eastern Suburbs late in the match last weekend.

Catch all the action live from 3PM, only on 7TWO.

From November 7mate will broadcast 32 hours of a new yachting competition, the 26-foot SuperFoiler Grand Prix to be held at various venues around Australia. Seven used to broadcast the 18-foot races on Sydney Harbour 20 plus years ago. (The Australian).

Seven Network secures broadcast rights to Women’s Rugby League World Cup 2017

The Rugby League World Cup 2017 (RLWC2017) Organising Committee is pleased to confirm that the Seven Network has secured the Australian broadcast rights to this year’s Women’s Rugby League World Cup.

Under the terms of the deal, in a first for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup, the Seven Network will broadcast all 12 matches of the tournament on free-to-air television and also stream all 12 matches live across the “screens of Seven”. The Women’s Rugby League World Cup 2017 will culminate in the final on 2 December 2017 in Brisbane, where history will be created when both the men’s and women’s finals are played on the same day, on the same stage with the Seven Network broadcasting the double-header live and free across Australia.

RLWC2017 Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Hill said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the Seven Network in an historic deal that will showcase the Women’s Rugby League World Cup on free-to-air television across Australia.

“The agreement to broadcast every match of the tournament across Australia on the Seven Network is a significant step forward for Rugby League, providing a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the skills and competitiveness of the women’s game.

“The Organising Committee is incredibly proud to be conducting a tournament that has attracted significant investment from both government and commercial partners whilst profiling the players and game like no previous Rugby League event.”

This year’s tournament will be first time the Women’s Rugby League World Cup has been held asa standalone event, with the pool matches to be played at Southern Cross Group Stadium in Cronulla (Sydney) as triple-headers on November 16, 19 and 22 with the semi-finals to be played as a double-header on November 26.

In July 2016, the Seven Network announced it had secured the all-encompassing broadcast rights to the men’s Rugby League World Cup 2017, further enhancing its position as Australia’s market leader for premium domestic and international sporting events.

Commenting, Saul Shtein, Seven’s Head of Sport, said: “We are delighted to be Australia’s home of international rugby league in 2017 with the Seven Network to broadcast all forty games of the men’s and women’s Rugby League World Cups.

“We are looking forward to committing our network to both the coverage and promotion of women’s Rugby League across the screens of Seven, with a dedicated live channel for all the Australian Jillaroos games throughout the tournament as they seek to claim the title of 2017 World Cup winners.

“It will be a great event and, in a tournament first, Seven will cover all matches of the Women’s Rugby League World Cup on television and also live-stream. We will cover it all.”

The RLWC2017 Organising Committee can also confirm that SKY Sport (NZ) has secured the New Zealand broadcast rights to the Women’s Rugby League World Cup 2017, with EMTV granted the rights in Papua New Guinea.

“Female participation is one of the fastest growing areas of the sport. To be able to broadcast the Women’s Rugby League World Cup across multiple international markets will not only promote women’s Rugby League to a wider audience than ever before, but inspire further growth of the game from grassroots to the elite level,” concluded Hill.

The Rugby League International Federation confirmed that Australia, Canada, Cook Islands, England, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea will be the six teams to contest the Women’s Rugby League World Cup 2017.

The RLWC2017 Organising Committee would also like to acknowledge the NSW Government, Queensland Government and Federal Government for their support of the Women’s Rugby League World Cup 2017.

Have they scrapped “channels of Seven”?

“Dedicated live channel for Jillaroos”?

What, on 7Live?

It doesn’t state that the matches will be live on the free-to-air channels only live streamed. So the matches will be shown delayed probably late night??

They will probably just air the Jilaroos matches (on 7two or 7mate), and air the other matches on some sort of live stream.

Yes, the Olympics was seen across the “screens of Seven” as well.

So Sydney have local Rugby on 7Two and Ch 7 have VFL / SANFL / WAFL respectively?

Why wouldn’t they show racing on main channel in Sydney? Would it really not rate as high as whatever else is airing?

Obviously they expect biggest audience to come from Brisbane.

Horse racing is niche content outside the Melbourne cup. Even more niche than local rugby (union).

SuperFoiler Sailing: Coming to Seven

Australia takes the lead in the new world of flying/sailing

New South Wales Sports Minister Stuart Ayres today launched the SuperFoiler Grand Prix. It features the World’s fastest foiling sail-racer on a new National Circuit of racing commencing in December this year, to be televised on the Seven Network.

The SuperFoiler is a three-year development initiative of Australian entrepreneurs Bill and Jack Macartney. The father son duo set out to create a new breed of extreme racer built purely to ‘foil’. Rocketing towards world leadership in the new sport that combines flying with sailing, their “SuperFoiler” is fulfilling the dream.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said innovation and technological leadership are qualities embraced in New South Wales sport.

The Minister said “The SuperFoiler Grand Prix is setting new benchmarks in the sport of sail-racing. It’s at the forefront of technology and creating a totally new experience for participants and fans”

“The SuperFoiler Grand Prix brings a new energy to Australian sport with a super-charged league of elite athletes, women and men.”

The Macartney’s have done it all before with their 18 Foot Skiff Grand Prix of the 1990s. They were inspired to re-launch Grand Prix Sailing after seeing the America’s Cup Catamarans rise on foils, hitting unprecedented speeds and looking like hurtling sleek monsters.

Bill Macartney, co-founder said “it was the America’s Cup catamarans that convinced us to take a risk and commit to a design concept that is proving to be a significant leap forward. We saw that all other foiling sail-racers were fundamentally existing designs with foils added.”

Jack Macartney, co-founder said “The SuperFoiler concept was not to conform to any existing geometry or platform but rather create something that gave the foils structure to function and flotation to launch off while being highly aerodynamic.

“Our brief to the world’s leading designers Melvin and Morelli was to start with the foils, maximise power-to-weight and minimise drag.”

Foiling technology has triggered the biggest ever technological shift in sail-racing. It means wind powered vessels rise up onto wing-shaped foils, freeing themselves of drag and hitting unprecedented speeds. The vessel literally flies above the surface at speeds up to three times faster than the wind.

The SuperFoiler is 26 feet long, 17 feet wide and weighs 350 kilos. Thus, she generates unprecedented power-to-weight and with aerodynamics and hydrodynamics fully exploited, minimum possible drag. Which means in 10 knots of breeze she’s nudging up towards 30 knots of boat speed.

The SuperFoiler Grand Prix will see six international crews racing at six events around Australia,
all televised on the Seven Network.

“We have attracted the interest of key individuals in the America’s Cup, that’s simply reassuring us we’re onto a good thing!” said Jack Macartney.

This SuperFoiler is the first of six, with another five in production to complete the fleet. The SuperFoiler Grand Prix kicks off in December and will see teams go head to head at six locations across Australia.

Bill Macartney said of the series “the SuperFoiler Grand Prix will be visually spectacular. Short, sharp, action-packed races will exhilarate crowds as they embrace a virtual experience of racing.

“For those who remember the passion of crews on board the Prudential, Ella Bache, AAMI etc. on the 18 Foot Skiff Grand Prix – the SuperFoilers will deliver all of this and more.”

“One difference is how fast these machines are. It is not for the faint hearted.”

##seven and Australian Golf sign long-term partnership

Australian golf’s premier events will be broadcast by the Seven Network this summer and beyond.

Seven, Australia’s most-watched broadcast television platform, the PGA of Australia and Golf Australia today confirmed a new long-term agreement to broadcast the Emirates Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship.

The Emirates Australian Open, hosted by The Australian Golf Club in Sydney from 23-26 November, has in recent years enjoyed excellent ratings and attendance by attracting some of the world’s best players including dual champion Jordan Spieth.

The following week, the Australian PGA Championship will be played at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast from 30 November to 3 December and will welcome the European Tour to Australia for the co-sanctioned tournament. The tournament honour roll features an incredible list of past champions including Adam Scott, Greg Chalmers, Peter Senior and Geoff Ogilvy.

With both tournaments broadcast live for five hours each round, the deal ensures Australian golf fans can access live golf free to air.

Seven’s Head of Sport Saul Shtein said: “We take great pride in our long association with the Emirates Australian Open, as one of the great sports events in Australia. The Australian PGA Championship is also a time-honoured tournament in world golf and with its co-sanctioned deal, our broadcast will reach around the world, continuing to enhance Seven’s reputation as the network of the biggest events in golf.”

Golf Australia Chief Executive Officer Stephen Pitt said: “We are thrilled that a long-term deal has been secured with Channel 7, a tremendous partner to all in Australian golf. The Emirates Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship both have storied histories and our deal with Seven is the best way to ensure as many people around the world have the chance to be part of our rich history."

PGA of Australia and ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Chief Executive Officer Gavin Kirkman said:“Australian golf has found a wonderful home and partner in Channel 7. I commend them on their commitment to the game and sports fans. We have seen some enthralling finishes to ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia tournaments in recent years including the marathon seven-hole playoff at the 2015 Australian PGA Championship and of course Jordan Spieth winning a second Stonehaven Cup when he prevailed at the Emirates Australian Open last year over our most recent PGA TOUR winner Cameron Smith and Ashley Hall. I am sure that this year’s tournaments will produce as many memorable moments and, thanks to Channel 7, sports fans can witness them all.”
