Seven Sport

This iconic race has been shown on Nine and Fox Sports, I think it’s the first time on Seven.

This year it will be held as a two-day event on the weekend of October 18-19, however 7plus is only streaming day one.

  • Coolangatta Gold 25.6 (Saturday) – 25.6km of ski paddling, swimming, board paddling and running, including brutal soft sand transitions after each leg.
  • Coolangatta Sprint (Saturday) – A high-speed, 12.5km format delivering action-packed racing in under an hour.

Today’s Raiders v Bears had the CBS broadcast and not the world feed

It’s a C game. Not surprised one bit.

  • Saturday, 29 November – Caulfield: Caulfield Spring Finale, Rosehill: Festival Stakes and ATC Cup, Ascot: MCA Polytrack Winterbottom Stakes Day and Doomben: Tattersall’s Race Day

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney, will again lead racing’s #1 team, joined by 7Racing’s Emma Freedman, Jason Richardson, Katelyn McDonald and Lizzie Jelfs.

Throughout the spring, viewers will also be treated to guest appearances from former Godolphin head trainer James Cummings, one of world racing’s leading trainers, alongside Seven’s House of Wellness co-host and Hawthorn AFL legend and Brownlow Medallist, Shane Crawford.

Seven’s Head of Horse Racing, Joel Starcevic, said: “There’s no greater stage for thoroughbred racing than the Spring Carnival, and we’re thrilled to showcase the sport at its highest level, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.

“This year, Bruce McAvaney returns to lead our coverage, alongside Jason Richardson, Lizzie Jelfs, Emma Freedman and Katelyn Mallyon.

“We’re also delighted to welcome James Cummings and Shane Crawford to our star-studded stable across October and November,” he said.

“Our 7Horse Racing cameras were in Hong Kong in September to capture the world’s best sprinter, Ka Ying Rising, return to the racetrack ahead of his Everest mission, and we are incredibly excited to share these quality stories with our viewers.

“The Cox Plate shapes as one of the highlights, with Via Sistina chasing back-to-back wins and James McDonald eyeing a fourth consecutive victory, while closing in on the all-time Australian record for Group 1 triumphs,” Mr Starcevic said.

“From the biggest moments on track to the stories behind the scenes, there’s no better place for racing fans this Spring than Seven and 7plus Sport, your home of racing.”

Seven has long been the undisputed leader in racing broadcasting and continues that rich tradition in 2025.
So far this year, Seven’s racing coverage has reached 8 million Australians across broadcast and 7plus Sport, up 8% year-on-year.

The Spring Racing calendar is the pinnacle of the 7Racing portfolio, which covers the very best Australian thoroughbred racing live and free every Saturday of the year as part of the most significant free-to-air broadcast deal in the history of the sport.

The long-term agreement to 2027 with Racing Victoria and Racing NSW, which includes key race days in conjunction with Racing Queensland and Racing SA, cements Seven as Australia’s home of racing, and means Australians enjoy 52 weeks of elite racing across the country.

This Saturday, Seven will bring viewers all the excitement of TAB Epsom Day and TAB Turnbull Stakes Day, with coverage starting from 12.00pm AEST.

Seven’s thoroughbred racing coverage can be streamed live and free via 7plus Sport. Catch up on the best bits of Seven’s racing coverage here.

Is this the first time Seven’s horse racing coverage extending into the evening?

Also 7mate would be pretty much free to use that night, although to be fair, they don’t want to drop its Saturday night movie.

Seven has broadcast harness racing at night a couple of times before.

There was also the coverage of the Magic Millions earlier this year that was a twilight meet.

I wonder if they will have old Penthouse Club clips in between races? Mary Hardy, Cliff Portwood, Shirlene Clancy, Smacka Fitzgibbon, Bill Collins singing, Ernie Sigley etc. all of them have gone to the great Showgrounds trotting track in the sky!

Only in Melbourne.

The rest of the country gets served a movie. It’s Live Free or Die Hard in Perth, and Spider-man for the others ex-VIC.

Both of them are repeats.

Well, that’s one way for Ryan Phelan to return to Seven’s airwaves.

I like that Seven are more willing this year to take a late game from the non-doubleheader network, rather than almost always getting lumbered with whichever non-event of a match ESPN didn’t take from the double-header network.

Admittedly they’ll miss the start of the late game most times doing this, but it means they’re often picking a more competitive match.
