The 2025 Spring Racing Carnival has come alive and the best place to see Australia’s most prestigious race days including The Everest, Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and the Golden Eagle live and free is on Seven and 7plus Sport.
Over the next two months of Spring Racing Carnival coverage, Seven will again stamp itself as Australia’s home of horse racing, bringing viewers all the biggest and best moments on track, as well as the glitz and glamour of Australia’s favourite race days.
From Melbourne’s hallowed Caufield Cup Carnival and Cox Plate to the unmistakable glitter of Sydney’s Everest Carnival, the Golden Eagle, Five Diamonds and The Big Dance, Seven will bring viewers the biggest and best moments on track this spring, including:

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney, will again lead racing’s #1 team, joined by 7Racing’s Emma Freedman, Jason Richardson, Katelyn McDonald and Lizzie Jelfs.
Throughout the spring, viewers will also be treated to guest appearances from former Godolphin head trainer James Cummings, one of world racing’s leading trainers, alongside Seven’s House of Wellness co-host and Hawthorn AFL legend and Brownlow Medallist, Shane Crawford.

“The Cox Plate shapes as one of the highlights, with Via Sistina chasing back-to-back wins and James McDonald eyeing a fourth consecutive victory, while closing in on the all-time Australian record for Group 1 triumphs,” Mr Starcevic said.

7two will broadcast live harness racing from Tabcorp Park Melton in Melbourne’s outer west on Saturday, October 18, from 6pm to 10pm AEDT. The meeting features the Group 1 Victoria Cup.

Is this the first time Seven’s horse racing coverage extending into the evening?
Also 7mate would be pretty much free to use that night, although to be fair, they don’t want to drop its Saturday night movie.
Seven has broadcast harness racing at night a couple of times before.
There was also the coverage of the Magic Millions earlier this year that was a twilight meet.
I wonder if they will have old Penthouse Club clips in between races? Mary Hardy, Cliff Portwood, Shirlene Clancy, Smacka Fitzgibbon, Bill Collins singing, Ernie Sigley etc. all of them have gone to the great Showgrounds trotting track in the sky!

I like that Seven are more willing this year to take a late game from the non-doubleheader network, rather than almost always getting lumbered with whichever non-event of a match ESPN didn’t take from the double-header network.
Admittedly they’ll miss the start of the late game most times doing this, but it means they’re often picking a more competitive match.
