Someone might be able to correct me, but has Seven ever shown pre-season games? I have a weird feeling they may have previously shown the Hall of Fame Game (it would have been a while ago), but it is probably me misremembering.

So this looks like it is probably tied into the Rams having Australia as part of the NFL’s International Home Marketing Initiative, along with the Eagles.

I think the upcoming season is the last season under Seven’s current broadcast deal with the NFL.

I noticed on 7mate this morning, the game was “ABC 7 Los Angeles”, with both verbal from the hosts/callers and on-air graphics. I always assumed the NFL’s broadcast unit provided clean or generic network feeds to global broadcasters, but perhaps this isn’t the case/not possible, bar Super Bowl?

Also interesting when they went to an ad break, it faded to black, then Seven fading to their ads. So clearly is a different feed to ABC 7 proper.

AFAIK, Seven have pretty much always taken the straight network feed to the games (which sometimes includes ads and program opens when they are too slow). The exception was the playoffs last year when they took the world feed for a couple of NBC games (NBC commentary, but generic graphics and no half-time segment, likely due to wanting to avoid issues around advertising Peacock oustide of the US).

Preseason games are produced by local affiliates in home markets. Some select games are produced nationally (NBC normally has the Hall of Fame Game [covered by ESPN/ABC this year due to Olympic coverage] while Fox, CBS, ESPN/ABC, and Prime will cover one each nationally).

Also, haven’t networks here always had access to global satellite feeds, certainly their long-time news output affiliates, they used to sometimes promote it in the 90s and 2000s, in relation to breaking overseas news stories and links to overseas reporters and the like. So might not be allowed when licencing comes into play such as NFL rights, but Seven might directly have access to numerous US tv stations anyway, be it at a playout centre level or directly to the ATN and HSV newsrooms

I don’t think any automatic ad triggers come through in a usable form for some of these games too - often happens with ESPN too

This is a pre-season game so it’s a different setup to normal.

The classic Seven Sport intro theme from the 1990s is now being used on an insurance ad and it’s driving me crazy everytime I hear it, because the next voice I hear isn’t Bruce McAvaney, Sandy Roberts, Peter Landy or Drew Morphett and my brain can’t register why…

I’ve been hearing it a lot during Nine’s Olympic Games and rugby league coverage recently.

I would’ve thought Seven would go as far as to copyright it. The next thing you know - we could be hearing Nine’s Wide World of Sports theme in an ad on Seven!

Fanfare for the Common Man has been and is being used in Olympic-themed promotions for AAMI, which is why it is appearing across networks.

They didn’t make it.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer (or their label) would have something to say if they tried.

It was mentioned on the Horse Racing coverage on Saturday that 7 has the rights to all of the WA Race meetings commencing on September 16th. The coverage will be on 7+.

Seven could consider including the first couple of races from WA in its main TV coverage every Saturday.

Is this the package previously on 10?
