as someone who lives and grew up in Melbourne, where we never had such TV bed time mascots, I am surprised at (a) that they are still a thing, and (b) that people are so attached to them. They always struck me as just being an annoying inclusion.

They are as outdated as classifieds segments. Just don’t say that here or you’ll be classed as a party pooper lol
they would have been pointless in our household, anyway. I never went to bed at 7.30 and no fluffy mascot was going to convince me to do otherwise
Are they as annoying as people from Melbourne?
Never get sick of hearing from Melburnians about what it was like growing up in Melbourne
Fully agree with this. It’s not as big of a deal as some are making it out to be.
TVW learned the hard way not to mess around with Fat Cat. I don’t even think that is 30 seconds anymore but regardless it’s such a minor thing for Seven and it makes kids (and their parents) happy.
TVW and GWN could make Fat Cat and Doopa Dog friends and have a combined good night message that will serve them well for the next decade. Hell they could even throw in the Prime Possum and have a single 15 or 30 second version for all areas.
They can spare a few dollars for these mascots. Some of you need to lighten up.
I miss the Hamburglar, Grimace and Mayor McCheese. Made a joke about them when I was chatting to 16 year old nephew who works at Maccas and he had no idea what I was talking about.
McDonald’s is no fun anymore
When I was in Kindergarten I had my birthday party in the party room at McDonald’s and all my friends came
Kids today won’t understand
I am approaching 40 and ordered two Fat Cats from Telethon last year. It’s a nice childhood memory to have and I am glad he is still around so the younger generations can experience it too.
Granted a lot of kids may not be watching FTA TV these days but I’m still willing to bet that most kids in Perth will know who Fat Cat is.
The concept of mascots may have gone out of fashion but we have taken all the fun out of everything these days. Let the kids have 15 seconds every night. It’s not a big deal. TV is supposed to be a community service after all.
Wait a minute how long have those characters disappeared from McDonald’s, I didn’t even realise that they were gone, lol!
Yep… most advertisements for poor old Ronald went around 2009… although they still show up on the cookies.
Been a decade at least. I think once Super Size Me came out and McDonald’s started to get a lot of flack from people they quietly began to remove the characters from advertising over the next few years.
They too obsessed with tik tok these days let alone see grimace
Be awful to see GWN7 news get stuck with a virtual set.
who remembers when prime brought out Prime Possum Plush toys
It will be interesting to see Seven decide to keep Prime’s Studios in Canberra. This also goes for Seven Queensland and GWN facilities. You would think merging all presentation under the metro stations in each capital city would be more financially viable?
I do not think they will sell them, especially 7QLD as they have been O&O for 27 years, but still do local production. If they made bulletins for all regional O&O markets, I reckon they will still be done from a regional area with the exception of VIC, that would probably be done from BCM in Melbourne.
I doubt Prime Possum comes up as non-program matter, it wouldn’t be taking up ad time.
I believe they (either Prime or Seven) may have sold an option for a developer to buy the studios in the future already
I don’t think many people would be happy if for example NBN axed Big Dog who has been putting the kids to bed in Northern NSW for years and years. Big Dog is a legend in Northern NSW everybody knows who he is unless you didn’t grow up in Northern NSW.
I assume if that happens, production will move to Sydney?
