Seven Regional

They can always just call him 7 Possum instead once Prime7 rebrands to 7 they don’t have to drop him

People in this thread are not thinking straight.
Why on earth would Seven keep this possum lmao

Purely out of spite to upset people like you?

No. I couldn’t give two rats (pun intended) if they kept it or not.
Prime/GWN are dead brands. It makes no sense to keep relics of the past.

It’s just a bit of fun for the kids, it’s not targeted at people like you?

Try smiling once in a while!

Alrighty then

It’s nice for the children, and to use at any promotional events. Nine still pull Humphrey B. Bear out every once in a while.

Seven are inheriting two free costumes for Prime Possum and Doopa Dog. A new hat for Doopa Dog and a new shirt for Prime Possum to remove the legacy logos would cost next to nothing.

Yes, just have them wear generic shirts/hats without branding is what I think. Keep their names Prime Possum and Doopa Dog though.

That’s half the problem with Australian television. They’ve all but eradicated those links to the past by dumping them as a budget measure or when their popularity wains for a time. There are few on screen legacies people can point to and say, “Oh, I used to watch that after school when I was a kid” or “I used to enjoy watching that with Granny”. Shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy in the US have generations of fans because of their legacy. Neighbours, Home and Away and the Melbourne Good Friday Appeal do it to an extent but every other tradition has been trashed to save dollars.

There’s a certain type of person who thinks like this.

In your world, what is the point of doing anything, ever?

‘it makes no sense to do that’

Seriously? No one in this thread is thinking about Seven as a business.
If they cared about Prime/GWN so much, they would’ve kept the name. No different to the goddamn possum.
It will be gone in history as has the Prime7 branding.

That’s the point I am trying to make.

You’re definitely not wrong. But didn’t the Prime possum play a bigger part on the station back in the 2000s?

There are legacies worth keeping and others that aren’t. Wheel and Jeopardy are profitable and wildly successful, a costumed character isn’t.

Problem is regional broadcasters have nearly zero localism in this country these days outside “local news” and these dress-up kids characters.

Seven may see it as beneficial to keep them to maintain some sort of continued connection with those local communities, rather than be the capital city bully bulldozing the local institutions for money. Not exactly an expensive thing to have.

A 30 second spot each night of a costumed character telling the kids it’s time for bed isn’t going to break the budget. How often do they update those spots? Once or twice a decade?

The networks whinge that they can’t get young viewers watching their product yet they produce nothing to help them feel connected. Is it any wonder free to air is slowly dying?

Since when is prime possum about making money?

It’s a bit of community engagement

Besides, without Prime Possum, how will I know when it’s time for bed?

That’s a lucrative spot in primetime to sell an ad, and now with a national broadcast, potentially better nationalised ad sales.

Lol.

You ever seen a regional TV sales schedule before? (I have)

It’s not wall-to-wall paid ads with no room for nothing else

Plenty of room for Prime Possum

Never heard regional TV described as ‘lucrative’, that’s a new one

I guess Prime Possum will go down the same road as Ronald Mcdonald has his crew.

Big Dog is getting jealous with all of Prime Possum’s mentions.
