Seven On-Air Presentation

And what does Mr Brightside have to do with anything?

It’s the song they’re using for their new promo.

I know. It’s what I’m saying. What does a break up song or the name Mr Brightside have anything to do with promoting your new shows?

It’s an upbeat, catchy song. That’s it. There’s nothing deeper I don’t think. Just a catchy tune.

I mean there is a Group 1 winning horse called Mr Brightside but I don’t recall Seven’s horse racing coverage being featured in the promo.

I would’ve picked something that wasn’t released 22 years ago. A 2026 track would have been more appropriate:
Fever Dream by Alex Warren.
Iloveitiloveiloveit by Bella Kay.

University of Michigan anthem and Jack Riewoldt sang it during the 2017 GF

One slide has been added/updated (I didn’t see this version) tonight.

Then HoW - full-on Reno promo stretching across the bottom of the screen.

And a perfect tie in to Seven’s classic “gottaloveit” slogan!

I’d live to see one of the networks bring back the proper network promos.

I don’t think this has been mentioned but I noticed that 7mate has a new PRG which is similar to Seven’s new one recently. It’s only shown during movies and not on other programming though. :slightly_smiling_face:

Speaking of PRGs… They’re rarely seen across Seven & the multis

7, 7two & 7mate stopped using them at the start of 2025

7flix dumped the PRG around 2022/2023

I get it’s for promotion & that.. but the replacement is a sore thumb

I don’t care if Farmer Wants a Wife is on at 7pm. I want to know what’s next dammit!

What do they use now?

Since everyone has smart TV’s now, they’re probably weighed up why use airtime for “up next” promos when they can use it for ads and promos.

TV guides are now only a button press away, or a few clicks on your phone.

Or are you thinking the lower thirds?

Exactly. Cheaper, less resources and staff to produce them at the promo, traffic/presentation or playout teams, less usage and less on-screen clutter.

Seven stopped doing ‘next’ promos for m/c gradually in 2019 and for some later main channel programming in 2020 after COVID started and certainly after the mid-2020 network re-launch.

Then PRG promo second lines including advertising other m/c stopped, some m/c stopped altogether and the 8:30/9pm full-screen line-ups ceased.

At one stage in 2020 or 2021 (around the time Warners programs like Cold Case and Without A Trace were running on 7flix) they adopted a full-screen and v/o ‘starts now’ which went for a few months.

Then individual promos each week (movies) stopped being made for 7flix, then 7mate around 2022-2023 and less rotation of regular program promos.

But yeah 2019 and that brief package update (with the white opaque PRG supers that ran all along the bottom with bright red/orange/blue/purple for the m/c) and I think when playout was still at BCM and under the old Tim Worner management was the last era for most of the aforementioned still existing, including 7pm Saturday movies, under the old tv Code and pre-COVID.

Other networks too, though Nine seem to have kept a lot of their pres operating as normal, even some old film masters have the ad break bumpers.
