Yet that was tried with a local drama a few years back and bombed badly.
Christmas ident now airing. Just features scenes of several Seven personalities dancing and it’s not what I’d call Christmassy.
Probably because they will just recycle it for Happy New Year and then the 2024 launch.
Nothing says Christmas like a date on the news desk that reads October.
Bring back the days of the annual station ident being launched on New Years Eve!
7 had some of the best over the years:
“Good Vibrations”
“Always Home”
“The One To Watch”
“Get Ready (Gottaloveit)”
And way back:
“Love You…” and “The Color Machine”.
I also loved 10’s “That’s Entertainment”
How could you leave out “Chuck a Lucky Seven”?
Updated to “Be My Lucky 7” in 2003. One of the hottest idents ever.
Here’s one of the originals.
Seven did have some good ids over the years unlike Nine who generally had the same id all year round. Ten had some good ones too like Give me Ten, Turn me On and the push the button ids. These days even on Seven their ids are not nearly as good as back in the 90s or 00’s. The Christmas ID this year didn’t require any effort at all just stock footage with Christmas music as a backing. Pure lazyness.
I wanted to post a link to the 1979 Channel 7 ident which featured Sydney news personalities miming along to Mahna Mahna song from The Muppet Show. Unfortunately the YouTube account which featured it has been shut down since I last accessed it.
But I found a different version this time with Perth news personalities so they obviously did different versions in each city. The Sydney one was a bit more risque with more scantily clad women. So this version was shown again in 2009 as part of the 50 Years celebrations in Perth.
I remember after the 2011 floods BTQ aired another version of that ‘Love you Queensland’ with footage of locals helping each other. God it was corny.
Cheers. Just seems strange now what was acceptable to promote news back in 1979.
The 7Queensland version of the Christmas Ad had clips of Rob, Jo and Livio out and about. Their clips replaced the Brisbane insert of Sharon and Max.
There’s a couple of cps here
The logo when Leckie took over became red with “The One to Watch” dropped for “See Things Differently” then the full relaunch with the “Lucky 7” idents
When Seven dropped “The One to Watch” in mid-2003, “See Things Differently” was a teaser for the relaunch with the solid red logo replacing the ribbon and the 5 colours look.
Nothing major, but an observation for MS none the less… I noticed last Friday and Saturday, in the last ad break before the 7:30pm movies on 7mate in Melbourne, they had promos for the movies saying “next”. These versions of promos for these timeslots during AFL season, nor their m/c in general bar 7Two, haven’t been regularly made since about 2018, I think to save money/due to budgets. Only regular shows or main channel get them. However, I didn’t see other versions of them during the week (such as “Friday” or “Saturday” or “tonight” on). Wonder if their presentation strategy has changed a bit again? Did the main channel versions of these promos have earlier week ones (Runaway Bride and Battle Los Angeles)? It could’ve been due to the varying split schedules because of AFL. And going off Friday and Saturday ratings last week, I’d be saving promo resources/money if I were Seven, as doesn’t look like anything outside of news and AFL rated, even BH&G and Border did bad and Nine got a total win.
