Seven On-Air Presentation

Are we looking at the same screenshot?

New Christmas ident airing, with a number of Seven personalities passing around a CGI parcel. Personalities included Sonia Kruger and some of the cast of Home and Away. The one I saw also featured Peter Mitchell, so I assume that there are versions for all markets.

I reckon there will also be a similar promo involving Sam Mac, or one dedicated to the entire Sunrise team.

Sam Mac’s Instagram story from last week shows him catching a parcel and then throwing it on, so I assume it’s for this promo.

Brisbane promo features the present landing on the desk in front of Sharyn and Max before exploding with glitter.

Reminiscent of those summer of tennis (hitting around a “7” tennis ball) promos, not sure how far they went back, at least 2009 (though they stopped around 2017 or 2018 I think?)

Another AEDT promo as seen in Queensland.

Seen during the 6pm news bulletin 40 minutes after the cricket had started on 7Mate - Seven would really rather you watched their news.

It’s a crap way to advertise.

The present gets consistently more warped as it travels across the country…

Nobody going to talk about how Seven have rehashed a Christmas Ident concept Nine last did (to the best of my knowledge) in 2005 right down to having the local newsreaders at the end?

One wonders if “I remember doing something exactly like this at another network 15 years ago” was a thought Mark Ferguson had during the production process of this year’s Seven Christmas IDs!

It certainly looks daggy and dated. I was going to say earlier that it looks like something you would have seen 20 years ago.

Does it matter? It was 15 years ago, nothing wrong recycling a good idea. Better than a new and lifeless idea.

And how many ideas these days are truly original?

Weird ident. They’ve gone into the effort of trying to show the reflection to the present on the newsdesks, but at the same time, it looks like a cheap and shitty job elsewhere.

I daresay it’d look nicer if they threw around an actual box rather than CGI.

None of it is new footage it’s all from AFL and Cricket promos.

That’s what I’d wondered too with some of them.

The other thing I’ve noticed here in Tasmania is we have the Victorian version with Peter Mitchell at the end. These are the sorts of promos where in the past they would usually have spent the time localising and putting in the local news team. I hope it’s not the end of the localised promos as that is something they’ve done well over the years.

Just because you can animate a 3D gift box, doesn’t mean you SHOULD animate a 3D gift box.

Yeah it’s pretty bad. It reminds me of some overly animated asset you would see back in the early 2000’s
