With the news today that the NBN Nth NSW weekend bulletins have been axed, it makes me wonder for how long the Seven Tasmanian weekend bulletins can survive? (before presumably being replaced by the Melbourne bulletin)?
I’d say the bulletin is relatively safe for now given unlike WIN, Seven have other assets that generate additional revenue.
Not sure if this is still the case, but if Seven are still doing weekend weather updates for Regional NSW/VIC regions like Prime use to do, then it probably also helps justify those if staff in the Canberra control room are also doing the Tasmania bulletin.
However, today’s decision means that Tasmania will soon be the only regional market which will have a dedicated weekend bulletin, and the only one which will have a bulletin which is a mix of local, national, and international news.
They’d be unique however being their own state.
NBN weekend news and 9 Sydney weekend news were probably fairly similar? There’s not a relevant bulletin for 7 Tas to fall back on.
WIN have a lot of property assets eg. buildings, so are not just a broadcasting/media entity.
The funds generated from property would likely be completely separate from their broadcast assets. I’d be surprised if one was funnelling money into the other.
A question.
Does the Tasmanian bulletin run any localised windows for Hobart / Launceston at all?
Or does the whole state get the same content nightly?
Single live bulletin.
They had North/ South windows (first two stories after first comm break) back before play out moved to Canberra. They also had North / South news and weather updates too, back in the day.
Just noticed this on my Facebook stories. Looks like Lou is back tonight. Welcome back Louise!
Yes I didn’t crop my screenshot - deal with it.
Great to see Lou again
Hopefully it’s up on 7plus soon. Our antenna is dead so I have to rely on streaming so I miss the Tas news at 6 and keep forgetting when I tune to 7mate for the VFL/W.
Slightly off topic, but is there anything preventing them from having a Tasmania stream, or have Seven just not done it?
Do they have a weekend sports presenter?
Hobart skyline! That’s surely a first.
Probably not the reason but most, if not all ISPs seem to route Tasmanian traffic via Melbourne, which results in a Melbourne based IP address which probably doesn’t help with serving up the right stream.
I’d definitely love a Tasmanian stream and have been checking regularly since they took ownership in the hope it might happen - especially now with the Hobart newsroom and hopefully that having settled finally after several moves and updates over the last couple of years.
Might have to set up ABC style selectable options then?
Or have it streamed on the 7NEWS Tasmania page, which would be the cheapest option.
