Seems there’s some viewers who unfortunately don’t seem to appreciate the new-look 7NEWS Tasmania, some viewers on The Pulse Tasmania’s Insta page have suggested the local news segments are hyper-Launceston (um, don’t know about that), some believe the quality of the bulletins have now gone downhill (I believe the quality of the service has always been very good - now even better as 7NEWS Tasmania), and 2 people want Louise Houbaer back (there’s a reason why she was yanked from Nightly News 7 Tasmania as it was then known, the news operations was being consolidated to Launceston ahead of SWM taking over the TNT Tasmania TV license, she didn’t want to move to Launceston full-time, and bringing her back would involve her leaving Hobart behind).

To the people complaining on The Pulse’s Insta page, why don’t you try and watch the new bulletin again if you haven’t already?

It’s nice to see weather graphics which are in line with the rest of the network, but if I can offer one bit of feedback about them, the forecast temperatures are not on screen for long enough. An extra couple of seconds each would make it easier for viewers to locate and read their local forecast. My elderly relatives would not be able to find and read their local forecast in the amount of time it’s on the screen currently.

I also hope to see some OTS graphics for various stories in addition to the nice new location backdrops.

Overall it’s a well-executed rebranding. Well done!

Maybe go tell them there instead of Media Spy where you’ll likely find none of them?

Why would it be temporary?

But yes, they need to go back to a sport presenter at the desk with Kim. Not sure if he was just off this week, but you think you’d have a whole team in for a big relaunch.

He was really good, be a good replacement to Murph rather than a salesperson moonlighting on the side.

Really light on for local news last night. Almost on par with ABC News for local content which is a shame. I hope this isn’t the path they are going down.

There must be a few from the team on leave at the moment including the sports presenter.

Whilst checking a Logopedia page for SCA, I noticed the page containing the logos for TNT’s news bulletin was still listed as 7 Tasmania Nightly News however I couldn’t edit it.

it’s been two days

There’s abit of negativity on this page scrolling back though some of the posts…….

So as a Tasmanian who regularly watches 7Tas I would like to congratulate the team at SWM Tasmania. I am sure this rebrand wasn’t a small undertaking.

But lets look at the teams other achievements aswell….in a short period of time…

A studio move from their traditional home, new ownership and the staffing uncertainty that will have accompanied that. A closure of the Hobart studio and loss of a well known Hobart based presenter. The loss of one of Australia longest serving weather presenters, who (like I suspect Louise did) did more than just read the autocue…And then they have launched a new news product.

I mean, Hats off to the technical staff, production team, presenters, the sales team and anyone associated with this effort. Every night they presented Tassie’s most watched news service and if you weren’t in the know, you wouldn’t have known any of this…

Well done team.

We probably take our 1 hour long commercial news for granted in Tasmania; Whilst the rest of regional Australia has been subjected to noodles or presentation from interstate, TNT, TasTV, SCA, and now SWM all understand localism is the difference, and its clearly profitable or they wouldn’t keep doing it.

So thanks team for your efforts, and hope to see the 7Tas News continue on for many years to come.

And especially after WIN’s cost-cutting of their own composite bulletin, and Nine’s half-baked attempt to launch their own bulletin, Tasmanians at least deserve the choice between ABC and Seven.

I am not sure we deserve it, but maybe we take it for granted.

I am not sure what other ABC state based news services are like (and I have zero intention on trawling through iview) but the local content on ABC Tas is becoming less and less. Yes they cover the big political stories, rewrite media releases from the CSIRO and Antarctic division, follow up stories that eventuate from their local radio service, but it does seem more national and international than it should be…..isn’t that what news24 is for?

7News fill a void, with hyperlocal stories that clearly the ABC won’t cover on TV, and that works. Look at the other media in Tasmania. Local works. News limited still run a hyperlocal daily news paper, our ARN stations (for the most) are local-ish with Tasmanian based news content. SCA base a networked breakfast show out of Hobart, Social media (by Tasmanian scale) giant pride themselves on being hyperlocal, loose a shoe, pulse will write a story on it…..and it works.

My point is, and maybe its a bit long winded, whilst 7 stay local, they will get a loyal, steady audience. Its a Tasmanian thing. We love our local brands, and semi-famous media personalities…Look at our parliament!

The opportunity to see Kim Miller or Guy Stayner ā€˜down the shops’ or on a golf course is a real thing. To see our radio personalities at a school event, or cricket or basketball game is a thing.

I would argue Tasmanians love that, because we don’t have high profile celebs in Tassie. These professionals are the next best thing….

Local works and can be profitable and TNT knew it, TasTV knew it, SCA even knows it, and so do SWM.

Been the same interstate - apparently a few years ago someone in management created a rule that the 7pm bulletins can’t have more than 5 local stories or something

ah apologies I thought you meant the new look.

Would hope it’s only temporary, but you’d think you’d have the full team on for a big relaunch.

Kiah has also been away which I assume is probably due to school holidays as they made fanfare that she was taking over the weekday role from Murph.

I really do like the new look but it does take some getting used to and even for the presenters to get things in the right order - e.g. ā€œ7 News Tasmaniaā€ instead of ā€œ7 Tasmania Newsā€ they’ve been using the last couple of years. The weather I noticed last night had the current temps there for Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie now whereas before it only had the three locations. It also has the a greater resolution in the temp too e.g. 13.2°C instead of 13C.
Still no Devonport on the page of the top temps for the day which I’m surprised at as there’s room there and they have many other places and with Devonport featuring everywhere else.
I like the new wind graphics and with the series of fronts crossing this week it couldn’t have been a better time for them. As an amateur weather fan I love that there is more detail in things now but it’s going to take a bit to get used to the new icons where I’ve conditioned myself to make it seem like it’s another mainland bulletin but that will all pass.

I liked the mention about the 7plus the other night for catching up on bulletins and they mentioned searching for Tasmania, I’m hoping that once things have settled down and they’ve updated their graphic that it will be in the main reel of news bulletins as they have all the other regional ones. It will be interesting to see if it does go in the Metro or Regional section though being an odd fit in either category by being the one hour composite bulletin for a regional market and hopefully one day the live streams do come through for Tas. As an aside, I’ve noticed that when streaming through the Hubbl at times that there are Tasmanian ads that pop through when watching through 9Now or 10Play as they are two that my antenna has trouble with so I watch through the streaming versions.

Please do not trash Kiah. She has worked incredibly hard training off-air and then becoming the main fill-in since mid 2023. There is no one more deserving of passionate for the role than Kiah.

Not trashing her, don’t know her personally and as such have nothing against her, but that Rick fella was really good, especially for a first go. Would have been good to have someone in a similar vein to Murph take over (though would have been ever better to have a reporter/presenter combined role- out and about doing the weather).

Describing Kiah as ā€œmoonlightingā€ as the weather presenter is trashing her. She’s no longer in sales and has been the dedicated fill-in for Murph for over 2 years.

LinkedIn says otherwise, which is why I was under the belief she was a salesperson, who comes in to do the weather at the end of the day. SCA always had people from around the office doing it. We know Murph had a day job too, I just think they’d be better to have someone who’s day job is also being a reporter.

All of the previous presenters I can remember have all had other day jobs, mostly from radio with either 7LA or ChiliFM etc… I’d prefer Kiah to Rick because she has improved greatly and with a bit of time in sure Rick will be fine too. He’s probably relatively unknown on air but is certainly well known around many community circles in Launceston so I didn’t hear who it was when he first started but he was the first guess when I saw him.

Ultimately I’d love a meteorologist to deliver the weather but other than that I don’t really care what they do as long as they have enough of an understanding about what they’re talking about and can present in an easy to listen and understand way.

have they ever used presenter supers or anything?
