Seven News (Regional Vic/NSW/ACT/WA)

Did they just air the test patten for the half hour?

No, it crashed into 7 News Sydney

Did Seven News air in Newcastle?

I mean it always air’s in Newcastle in full since they don’t have a local bulletin.

I wasn’t sure if the feed came directly from Seven Sydney or whether it came through the Seven Regional feed

Newcastle used to have a local Prime7 (then Prime) news bulletin until it was axed on 9th June 2001 due to falling ratings and the anticipated costs of the switch to digital television. NBN News wins the Newcastle ratings for local news now. Seven wins Number 1 for national news and local Sydney headlines in Newcastle.

Reuben presented all the local bulletins tonight. Not sure if he did the noodle updates, though.

Oh that studio is so bad

It’s a shame they couldn’t at least make the newsroom backdrop a little bit more appealing with 7 signage or some lightboxes to lighten it up, was so drab. This backdrop is no better really - but the market is tiny and it’s just not worth the $$.

They’re lucky they still have a local bulletin. I’m honestly still surprised it’s read from WA.
I’m guessing they’ll shift production to Canberra or Perth once Noel retires.

Why couldn’t 7 Perth control the bulletin like how 7 Brisbane does for Gold Coast? Use the Perth control room to run the WA bulletin at 5:30 and the Perth 6 PM bulletin.

My guess is the systems are intergrated properly yet - i.e. there is no way to control the bulletin from Perth without investing in new links, etc.

IIRC the Bunbury studio is being fed back to Canberra by satellite (I’m assuming VT items are fed back via IP). Couldn’t a satellite receiver just be set up at 7 Perth for that?

Could be, however, I guess since Canberra control’s it, it can help justify keeping staff back late to do later local news updates.

Surely they’d be better just presenting in front of a green screen and keying in the same backdrop? That is shocking

Even worse unfortunately.
This was the result when they keyed the backdrop in when they presented the bulletin from Canberra for a week in July.
White overload.
