Seven News (Regional Vic/NSW/ACT/WA)

That should have changed on 1st July when regional and metro came together under the new Home Shopping contract. Even the infomercials should be the same.

I am led to believe that 7 and regional Australia are now exactly the same, with the exception of that news hour in some markets at 6pm and 5:30 in WA

I’m pretty sure it was reported here a while ago that the overnight home shopping finished and mimicked the 7 metro schedule

Given the recent cuts at Channel 7 under a new boss I’m wondering if the regional team and Tasmania will be next to go.

Tasmania is not owned by Seven.
I doubt the regional teams will go. If anything, maybe scale back to 1 presenter for NSW and RQLD.

Surely the 6:30 NSW News would be the first in line, replaced with a cut-down version of the Sydney bulletin line with RQLD getting a shortened Brisbane bulletin?

They would probably move one of the local presenters to 6:30, and axe Daniel (since he’s been there since at least the 90s IIRC).

For QLD, they will probably hold out until Rob Brough leaves, then just get Joanne Desmond to do all the bulletins.

The other option would be if Seven moved the regional news to 5:30pm in line with Seven Gold Coast and Seven Regional WA and all markets receive the full metro bulletin.

If they went with this option, I think they would need to encore the local news bulletins on 7Two at maybe 6pm or 7pm.

Whatever Seven do, they will ensure its cost effective

No way Seven would do that in QLD, given they get shares of up to 80% and above in the 6pm-7pm slot.

Probably would be smarter to cut the metro bulletin down to 30 minutes, add Today Tonight or something in metro, then they could just timeshift the metro news for the regional areas, rather than have to edit or do the regional 6:30 news. Maybe flip it to run local news at 6:30 like WIN did for a while before the newshours started, so it’s live into both markets.

They’d have less issues with single anchor markets doing only 30 mins, and they’d be able to better achieve their plans for more national driven content if it was for a current affairs show, plus a more natural home for horoscopes and comedy bits, be tabloid without continuing to do damage to the news brand.

That is a good point. Especially if the Today Tonight style program was a single production for the national audience. However, if Seven did this, the regionals that have local News at 6:30 could station shift Today Tonight to 7Two followed by Seven Local News @7 (all this would take is changing the program graphic but wouldn’t require an edit to what the news reader delivers on air)

Seven could also encore Today Tonight following The Latest each night Monday to Thursday and followed by a Nightline style 5 minute update on Friday

Yeah. Hopefully that’s the “big plan(s)” happening in Melbourne.

That would be refreshing for the network as programs like Sunrise comes from Sydney. Ideally, I think everyone would like to see production from all 5 mainland capital cities other than the locally produced news bulletins and preferably broadcast across the Seven Network

Agree. And this has all been discussed before.

They’ve just sacked a whole bunch of behind the scenes staff in Melbourne.

Does anyone know how to watch VAST Regional News via VLC Media Player? And are there direct feeds for the 7NEWS Regional and WIN News bulletins and their respective “noodle” updates? Or is this only limited to satellite dishes? Thanks.

The direct source feeds for VAST regional news are not supplied to the public. These are station to playout centre only and in some cases from one playout centre to another. There is no other way for joe public to view Vast Regional News other than by satellite.

@Radio_TVGuy Do you have a Foxtel dish on your roof? You could buy a VAST set-top box with a travellers certificate and plug it into the existing Foxtel wall plate if you’re interested in accessing those channels.

Is exactly how I have access to VAST.

Did the regional bulletins air tonight? Was flicking through and had this show for about 10 seconds then caught the end of 7 News Sydney.

7 News New England did air, but the 6.30 news didn’t.
