Seven News (Regional Qld)

The lights to the left are still flickering!

I know the studio is in Maroochydore, but it’s oddly specific for a region which could easily be just titled the Sunshine Coast - especially for a National audience.

Did they only use the one (shitty) angle?
Also, why not just have her in front of a TV or just on zoom from home?

Just discovered that Ariarne Titmus, who just won the Womens 400m Freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics, is the daughter of Seven News Regional QLD reporter and fill-in presenter Steve Titmus.

I figured as much, although didn’t know for sure.

Steve Titmus was the main newsreader on Tasmania’s Southern Cross News and briefly worked at WIN before relocating his family to Queensland so his daughter could pursue her swimming goals. Good, selfless dad.

Steve and Ariarne both well liked by the BTQ and STQ staff. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if there was a few celebrations there today after that gold medal swim.

I’m curious to know how Seven’s regional bulletins are going during the Olympics. Given the bulk of the first block of news from Brisbane at 6pm has been Olympics content this week, I’m wondering how many other non-Olympic stories the regional audience is receiving in the cutdown 6.30pm news?

Across this week it has varied ; today for example, there were several non-Olympic stories.

On Tuesday the Sunshine Coast bulletin opened with Olympics and it was second story on Monday with local swimmer involved plus crossing to her former school.

The local sport report also includes competitors from the local area.

Seven local news Sunshine Coast really stretching to get the local angle on stories tonight.

The first story was about a murder in Nambour :heavy_check_mark:. Then a story on Toutai Kefu’s recovery because he was a former Stingrays’ coach; a State government small business funding initiative (from the Gold Coast), then a state COVID number update and then a story on the Afghanistan repackaged with a local slant.

Watch This Space

Going HD?

Not as far as I’m aware.

Is that Danielle De Pinto? I was surprised at how good on updates (for a first timer) she was a few months ago and I thought she would be a good replacement for Katie Toney. Hope Jo isn’t leaving though!!

A possible new set?

What. A. Tease!

Jo is not leaving, DD will read with Rob next Monday and when Jo takes leave over Christmas/New Year.
Still not sure what’s happening when Rob takes leave though, given that Steve Titmus is now reading full time on the Gold Coast.

Perhaps nobody? Surely Sam Heathwood would be on the cards as a fill in at some point?

She would be a fantastic choice.
