Not that it really matters, but appears they have (or had, as the Brisbane property was up for sale in July) property in both Brisbane and down the coast.
The latter was purchased, according to a real estate article, to cut the travel down to the coast after he started so they may be residing there full time.
No biggie, was just curious as it seemed to be posted as fact which contradicted what Steve said.
I imagine Amanda will stay on as a primary Gold Coast reporter and back up presenter. Perhaps Brisbane will try to include more live crosses to the GC at 4&6pm with Amanada fronting them. Sally will probably freelance now. With her profile raised, she can book corporate events, fill in on radio and do some sports commentary.
This cross makes me think, how long ago did they decide to cut Gold Coast News?
Surely Amanda Abate would have been a consideration to replace Sharon if this was all in discussions around the same time. Must seem like a demotion now to be reporting with Sarah newly in a presenting role.
An outlier at best. They’d have been looking at people with statewide presence if not national. Amanda was great on the GC but has little experience outside of that.
Today marks 45 years since Mike Smithson joined 7News Adelaide - he started on the 26th of November 1979 (back when SAS was 10 Adelaide). Josh Money made note of the occasion when handing back to Mike after sport in the morning news.
I think Nick McCallum at HSV also started around the late 1970s, but would later go to Nine and have quite the career there including in the US Bureau in the 90s with Robert Penfold, before being poached back by Seven during a golden period in 2007 becoming one of the most senior journalists including for Beijing Olympics in 2008.
I suppose being from WA, she was just stood out to me as one of the more recognisable/familiar names I can recall out of QLD seven. As some mentioned from some national coverage in news and sport. But I see that she wasn’t exactly a direct consideration now
