Still can’t believe Rebecca left her major network roles at Nine for this position at Seven Melbourne.
Even if there was a pay difference. Though you wonder how desperate Seven were at the time and what an original offer might’ve looked like, perhaps just beating Nine to get her. Would she have stayed at Nine if no other like-for-like jobs came up? I find it hard to believe she’d give that all away.
At the time she left, she was only really doing Weekend Today, which usually involved travelling to Sydney (when borders weren’t shut) - reading evening weekend news + some afternoon bulletins is probably better - especially since she won’t have to spend weekends away from family.
Im pretty sure it was Nine that didn’t want her. Ninja was either axed or about to be axed. So she was essentially just doing weekend today and tennis once a year.
I think 7 just picked her back up, rather than ‘poached’ her.
Originally Nine did poach her though, offered her a contract she couldn’t refuse and like Woodbridge it was a big leap of a decision, for The Footy Show in 2016… And look how that mess in its final years turned out, constant format changes and hosts in a short time after her first year on it. I think she had a few weeks with Sunrise’s new set and graphics and then the shock news leaked. Coincidentally prime time specials are coming to Nine, currently being promoted.
Was my thought… but it would be a shame with no promotion. If it was to happen (and they tried it many years ago duing summer!) it should have a promo along the lines of…
“Katrina Blowers joins Max Futcher for Qld’s number one news. Weeknights at 6.”
Definitely looks far too close between Mike and the weather presenter, almost like he & Karina should be closer together. A tighter shot of Mike throwing to the presenter would be better, they don’t both need to do it.
