According to the Herald Sun, there are rumours that Rebecca Maddern could make a permanent shift to presenting sport when she returns from leave in mid-September.
That will coincide with Abbey Gelmi going into maternity leave, won’t it?
Tim Wilson bumped?
Chris Salter is brining his M.O. from Adelaide of having random presenters swapping around constantly to Melbourne.
Slap in the face to Bec really.
Just put Mitch on weekends and move Amor and Bec to weeknights. Mitch has never been stellar.
Apart from the weekend 5pm news, they seem to be fairly consistent with their presenters in Adelaide.
If the rumours are true, I’d put it down to new national management wanting to change things up like they are doing with trialling Ange solo on weeknights, and Usher and Angie on weekends.
it’s settled down now but for years the 4pm, and later 1130, was all over the shop. The sport presenter was almost a lucky dip!
Fair enough - things did get out of whack when they briefly shifted to a Sunday-Thursday roster for weeknights.
Bec is probably the strongest weapon they have against 9. She also needs to be solo, not dual.
I’d probably run Bec weekdays and Amor weekends. Time to send Mitch on his way.
Shane Webcke is to leave his role as Brisbane’s Sports Presenter in January. He will be doing NRL reports at that time.
Bec for weeknights with Mike if they need a double act against 9, otherwise Bec solo.
What a demotion… Essentially like what they did to Jacqui Felgate, although she deserved it.
Bec does not deserve this, unless she wants it. She would definitely be good on weeknight sport to replace Grandpa Tim though.
Two people that would be good to front Sport more would be Bec and Gillies.
That would rank as one of the stupidest decisions they could make. I wouldn’t say that the anchor is the problem, they need to focus more on the news reports of the day/night… less horoscope/astrology crap and more journalism.
Maybe the plan is to get Bec back into some Sydney/network roles (Sunrise/TMS who knows), including Seven Sport telecasts? She already co-hosts one of the highest rating annual programs in Melbourne in the Brownlow and could spearhead it now, with Felgate gone and Hamish AWOL.
I did see a funny comment (of a lot) on that DM article saying 7 publicity will probably do a tabloid puff piece in a month with Rebecca and Karina sitting sipping a latte and giggling together ‘all is well, nothing to see here’.
The last time they did that she jumped the ship to Nine - but then again, this is Seven management we are talking about.
Well, apparently Nine ended up wanting her contract not renewed and/or she wanted higher salary. Perhaps Seven want to cut it now with all the tightening and restructuring and she mightn’t want to, but she may also be left with no option
