Mike Amor very briefly at the very end of the bulletin said “and welcome to weekends by the way” to which Tyra gleefully said “thank you!”
FWIW her first official weather report was flawless tonight and seems to be a bit snappier and bubbly in terms of pacing and engagement than Sonia, who I also thought did a fine job.
Will be interesting to hear if she spends some extra time getting into her new role, such as with the staff who look after the weather segment in the newsroom or at the BOM.
The weekend news in Melbourne is basically a brand new team this year with the addition of Karina and Tyra.
Blake Johnson made it to Philadelphia for a live report on the plane crash tonight. No sign of a 9 reporter.
Who is on sports?
Theo Doropoulos
Temporarily until Abbey Gelmi returns from maternity leave.
Ah cheers, I haven’t been home in a few years and didn’t recognise him.
Well we predicted this.
They wanted someone younger and this is it.
Sunday February 2
Angie Asimus is presenting the 5pm news
Yes, and they are terrible. Now watching 9 permanently.
No V/o opening in Perth tonight!!Weird
Who was presenting?
Tim & Angela
Guess someone must’ve loaded up the wrong opener then
Change for change’s sake and Channel 7 have done a South Africa (WC 99) and have just dropped the world cup. Rebecca Maddern didn’t need to be moved to the sport department and they certainly shouldn’t have parachuted Karina into the weekend co-anchor role. She’s very bland and doesn’t feel like an authoritative voice when presenting the news.
The weekend weather change is an interesting one, don’t really rate Tyra… she might improve as time goes on… but I’m skeptical as (to steal a quote from a song lyric) It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll (it’s a good thing that they are presenting a news bulletin and not a rock concert ha!).
7News Melbourne took out a half page ad in Sunday Herald Sun yesterday. But it made a faux pas by including Sharnelle Vella in the ad (she is in the second column from left). She pointed it out on ABC Melbourne breakfast today that she quit the network last November following the ABC appointment.
It was a bit like Melina Sarris who was given the weekend weather role a few years ago. Melina’s presentation improved over time and she’s now property editor.
