Seven News Presenters and Reporters (2020-Feb 2025)

You don’t know that either wanted it. Katrina already scaled back her podcast commitments and Samantha is a young mum. They may have turned it down.

Sarah Greenhalgh was particularly impressive covering the initial Russia-Ukraine war a couple of years back, feeding-into/alongside 7Perth’s Geof Parry. Believe they were nominated for and possibly won an award(s), also heavily praised by the public and industry.

Some of her recent Spotlight investigations have also been fantastic, namely the heartbreaking social media-teen mental health story, where she interviewed a prominent Ballarat racing family’s son who suicided and went all the way to social giant HQ’s in San Francisco to try and demand action.

Good going Sarah and Seven (for all their recent faults). But agree, bizarre RE: Ghidella.

Not to mention being apart of the network’s coverage of the death’s of Prince Phillip and The Queen, along with the Coronation, the Platinum Jubilee, and the chaos of the UK’s COVID response, and the chaos of Boris, Truss, and Sunak.

Plenty of footage Seven can use in promos.

I think they’ve done the right thing. If they put Sarah straight in to the role after sacking Sharyn, the optics wouldn’t have been right.

Now Sarah can just be seen as a new reader rather than the woman responsible for Sharyn losing her job.

Katrina was given additional responsibilities (reading the bulletin is the lightest workload in the newsroom) and ‘young mum’ Samantha worked in a replica role when her kids were younger. Since we’re guessing, the likelihood of yours is the same as mine. What we do know is that it’s easier to just make a copy of the Angela Cox promo…

I don’t. Sharyn shouldn’t have been sacked.

I think @Andrew meant the right thing as in waiting a couple of months before replacing Sharyn. Which does seem to be the right business decision. But no, Sharyn should obviously not have been sacked.

Didn’t I suggest this just a few days ago? :man_shrugging::raising_hand_man::+1:

Yep

Yes, Sharyn shouldn’t have been sacked.

But not a bad outcome, all things considered.

I’m guessing here but i reckon Sarah might still be in her 30s, maybe late 30s. Is she the youngest 6pm newsreader in the country?

Could possibly be the youngest of the incumbent weeknight 6:00pm newsreaders, I believe.

I know Will Goodings is 41, while Rick Ardon would’ve been just short of turning 26 when he and Susannah Carr began their long record incumbent run presenting the Perth bulletin in 1985.

Speaking of which, I wonder how TVW will mark four decades of this iconic duo next year? Surely there’ll have to be a celebration of sorts.

And further back about 3 weeks ago too.
I must’ve read it in the nightly horoscopes

7NEWS Brisbane reveals new team

Max Futcher and Sarah Greenhalgh to co-anchor flagship 6.00pm bulletin

Queensland’s #1 news service today announced award-winning journalist Sarah Greenhalgh will join Max Futcher as co-anchor of 7NEWS Brisbane’s flagship 6.00pm weekday bulletin from Monday, 21 October.

Born and bred in the River City, the accomplished broadcaster makes her triumphant return home after five years travelling the world as a foreign correspondent and investigative reporter for the Seven Network.

Most recently a reporter on Seven’s flagship public affairs program 7NEWS Spotlight, Greenhalgh has received accolades at the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism, the Kennedy Awards and the Queensland Clarion Awards, and was nominated for a TV WEEK Logie Award for her coverage of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes in 2023.

Greenhalgh’s impressive career has so far taken her to more than 20 countries, and after a decade with Seven, she is excited to be heading back to the iconic Mount Coot-tha studios to embark on a new chapter.

“Max has been an incredibly supportive colleague and mate of mine for the past 11 years now, so to be sharing the news desk with him while also returning home to my original 7NEWS family is a huge thrill,” Greenhalgh said.

Sharing people’s stories remains my greatest passion, so in addition to delivering the news to Queenslanders each night, I look forward to continuing investigations with the 7NEWS Spotlight team as well.”

Max Futcher said: “I’ve known Sarah for many years now and have so much respect for her and what she has achieved throughout her career. I can’t wait for our viewers to get to know Sarah too, as we share the news that matters to them each weeknight.”

Seven Network Director of News and Current Affairs and Seven West Media Editor-in-Chief, Anthony De Ceglie, said: “Sarah is an extremely accomplished journalist who has had a remarkable career rise that all started as a reporter in regional Queensland.

“We’re incredibly excited for this next chapter in her career, where she won’t just be the co-anchor for our must-watch 6.00pm bulletin alongside Max but will also be leader across the newsroom championing journalism and investigations.”

Greenhalgh started her media career flying high above the skies of Brisbane as a traffic helicopter reporter, followed by stints in regional newsrooms in Mackay and Cairns before returning to Brisbane in 2013, where she covered everything from natural disasters to crime.

In 2019, she became Seven’s London-based Europe Correspondent during a pivotal period of world events which saw her recognised for her extraordinary reporting from the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic; during several postings to the war in Ukraine; the death and funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; and her compassionate coverage of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes in 2023.

Viewers will still see Greenhalgh on 7NEWS Spotlight, as she continues to file reports for the agenda-setting investigative journalism program.

Greenhalgh joins seasoned broadcaster Futcher who has more than 30 years’ experience in media and has also travelled around the world to report on global news events.

Futcher’s career has taken him to four Olympic Games and seen him report on everything from Nelson Mandela’s death and funeral to earthquakes in Italy and floods across Queensland.

He won a UN Media Peace Award in 2006 for his reporting on violent upheaval in East Timor and a Clarion Award for his coverage of the Bali 9 executions in 2015.

As part of the reinvigoration of the Brisbane newsroom, seasoned and much-loved local journalist and presenter Katrina Blowers has also been promoted to Queensland Chief Reporter. In this high-profile new State and national role, Blowers will take on the most important stories and investigations impacting our audiences in Queensland and right across the nation.

Mr De Ceglie said the role was recognition that Blowers sits among the most elite journalists in the country.

“Katrina is one of the fiercest and most respected news reporters in the country and in this new role she will take the lead on uncovering and delivering north-east Australia’s biggest stories to our national audiences,” he said.

Blowers will continue to share 4.00pm weekday presenting duties with Samantha Heathwood, who also remains anchor of the 6.00pm weekend bulletin for 7NEWS.

Futcher and Greenhalgh will present their first bulletin together on Monday, 21 October, alongside 7NEWS sports presenter Shane Webcke and meteorologist Tony Auden.

That’s just unnecessary.

That headline very much says it all really.

We fucked up!

Also means the possibility of maternity leave at some point.

I also remember Sharyn Ghidella was expecting when she had just joined Seven Brisbane in 2007.

She was hired to replace Tracey Challenor, who IIRC declined the network’s offer for her to become a senior reporter and subsequently resigned.

And Tracey was never to be seen again

So … still the question why was Musher recently in Qld with Sarah? I wonder if there’s some sort of promo that he’s included in… either specifically for Spotlight or maybe commenting on her background as part of her starting at 6pm?
