I think Matt Shirvington is quite good - confident, professional and smooth. I’d much rather prefer him over Mel. Actually I’d much rather prefer the 7 news weekend team over the 7 news weekday team
Paul Burt presented the weather for the Brisbane bulletin tonight - bit strange for someone on holidays .
Perhaps Paul was just taking a few days off during the week with the intent of coming back tonight for 7 News Brisbane (and returning to the Gold Coast news next week)?
Similar to Mike Amor this week, away for a few weekdays and then back for the 6pm news.
Ange was great tonight, a breath of fresh air IMO.
Say if Michael Usher decided to leave Seven or wanted to focus on The Latest and stepped down from 6pm duties, or if Mark Ferguson left Seven (which means Michael Usher would go to Sunday-Thursday), I reckon she should be given the Friday & Saturday 6pm newsreading role in Sydney.
Tom Chadwick’s leaving 7 Melbourne. Yet another one to quit. They’ve lost so many on and off air staff in the past 12-18 months. Wonder why?
Where did you hear this? I can’t see any announcement on his social media’s. Was it announced in Melbourne’s 6pm news last night?
That’s a shame, thought he was quite good.
Maybe in response to this?
Sunday 12 July-
Michael Usher is presenting in Sydney tonight.
Ryan is now returning to Perth.
A view from behind the new desk
Haven’t seen this shared - but this was in today’s Sunday Mail. Essentially it links into a plug for her new podcast series called “Claiming Your Confidence”.
‘I couldn’t breathe’: Newsreader Katrina Blowers’ on-air panic attack
IT took Katrina Blowers three years to regain the confidence she lost when she suffered a panic attack moments before reading a live news bulletin.
The Channel 7 Brisbane journalist was reading the hour-long news bulletin on a Sunday night when she felt her chest tighten as the news theme began playing.
“I was going through a divorce, it was amicable but it was still extremely stressful,” Blowers (pictured) said. “Work was my happy place … an opportunity to enter a bubble and not think about the stress going on, but stress has a funny way of coming to bite you.”
“I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t speak. My heart felt like it was going to explode out my chest, but the camera was on me and I had to do an hour of live television. I said Good evening’ and I read the first line of my intro and the last line … and it made no sense.”
Her team stepped in to help, having her read the news in small chunks as she intermittently paused to breathe.
Blowers, who described it as “one of the worst moments of my life,” found herself fearing it would happen again.
“It came so out of the blue and it really hit me in my happy place, this job I adore. I started to think am I ever going to read the news again or do live television?” she said.
Determined to overcome the fear, Blowers, a mother of two, read every study available on the science of confidence
“I did lots of different workshops, therapy, I started meditating,” she said. “Over a couple of years it worked.”
Blowers took over from Kay McGrath as weekend anchor this year, which for her “was the moment I felt like I had conquered those demons.”
Sunday 12th July -
David Brown is back presenting weather on a Sunday in Sydney, after Sally Bowrey has been doing Sunday weather for the last few weeks.
Seven News Perth’s Rory Campbell is now on the Gold Coast, replacing Ryan Daniels who is flying home. Rory did a live cross to the Melbourne bulletin this evening, and will cover the six Victorian AFL clubs who are training at the GC hub.
The Courier Mail confirms today this is a permanent change.
SEVEN has shaken up its Gold Coast ranks by axing a familiar face citing the pandemic’s “tough times”.
7 NEWS Gold Coast’s popular Liz Cantor will no longer do her weekly weather and beach-surf reports. She and Luke Munro have been casualties of cost-cutting.
Cantor, who declined to comment, will still present the Live Gold Lotto and Powerball Draws. She also hosts Creek to Coast on Saturday and Weekender on Sunday.
Tony Auden, an ex-Bureau of Metrology forecaster and who hosts 7 NEWS Brisbane’s weather, will do the 7 NEWS Gold Coast weather instead.
Popular coastal and fishing presenter Burt will file a coastal report on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the weather on Friday and Saturday.
Mr Auden will broadcast from the Gold Coast once a week.
The changes make sense I suppose, now aligning with the roster for the Brisbane bulletin. It’s a shame about Liz though- she did the coastal report for the metro bulletin for a number of years and was always good when filling in on weather in studio.
They should have kept her instead of Paul but that’s just my opinion.
Monday 13th July -
Michael Usher is presenting in Sydney again tonight.
Presumably Mark Ferguson is on holidays this week.
Monday 13 July-
Sean Sowerby is back presenting sport on Afternoon News in Melbourne this week.
