Jodie went on maternity leave in September last year,we don’t know when she will be returning.
Natalie Barr is the current newsreader for the Early News.

Doubt she will return to the early news considering her husband is taking over Alan Jones’ timeslot.

You may be correct. In The Sunday Telegraph’s Stellar magazine there is an interview with Fordham and Speers, where she indicates:

Speers, who is on maternity leave from her job as a newsreader with 7 Early News, was aware her husband’s acceptance of the role meant turning their whole day upside down.

“I knew he had to take it, but I probably had a bit of a knot in my stomach trying to process it,” she says, adding it’s too soon to discuss what it means for her job.

Two reasons…it looks great in promos.

And of they weren’t on the ground, people would complain they were phoning it in, or making up what they’re reporting.

I get it. I just genuinely wonder whether they should be there. A lot of the reports over the last few days have seen her in really bad situations, prompting ‘stay safe’ comments from the anchors. I dunno, it’s a bit like reporters going into bad weather/cyclone zones. I just don’t think it’s needed.

Maybe Natalie Barr will return to that position like before.

As for Jodie well she could potentially fit in on Friday Morning/Afternoon news (with Sally focussing on Weekend Sunrise). Sally Bowrey isn’t the greatest newsreader these days and Jodie might be a better choice.
