Look, I’m sure Mark Ferguson is a reasonable enough guy and I don’t really have anything against him personally. He’d probably be fine on daytime bulletins (a role he has held in the past on both Nine and Seven), or even in a rolling news channel environment where viewers just want the headlines and nothing else.
But Fergo isn’t really the best fit for the role of a Sydney 6pm bulletin where aside from coming across as authoritative when the big stories break, you also need to engage with viewers and express some personality where appropriate. This is perhaps the main reason why Peter Overton has been #1 for almost a decade while Ian Ross, Roger Climpson & Brian Henderson were the biggest names in Sydney TV news for years before that!

He worked Monday to Friday instead of his usual Sunday to Thursday this week.

I do find though that Overton does stumble on his words quite a bit or have a few more “bloopers” than Fergo. I don’t actually remember the last time I saw Fergo stuff up.
