Angie Asimus presented Early News.

I love how we put all the blame on the presenter and not the final product as whole :man_shrugging:??

Peter Mitchell is fine and well liked in Melbourne. He hasn’t been the issue in Melbourne over that time.

Seems odd given that his nemesis at Nine has been back for two weeks now.

But it gives the audience a chance to bond with Mike Amor.

How many people do you know turning off news bulletins because of management issues?

When Fairfax owned HSV, dropping Mal didn’t help but the Sydney stench.

Those points that you listed in great detail I doubt would have had any influence on the ratings in Melbourne.

It’s as simple as this:

Both Peters are trusted and recognised, If viewers had to choose between 2 they’d go with Hitch just because he’s so friendly.

There is hardly any difference in the product being offered, but 7 keeps on creeping up on 9 so soon has Hitch retires 7 will probably take the reigns.

I also think Seven will get closer once Hitch retires (that will be a sad day). Especially if they replace him with Tony Jones which I (unfortunately) expect to happen.

That’s because the idiots up the sydney Ivory Towers did not know how well liked HSV to Melbournians. It was most hostile takeover in Australian history. We all know how Fairfax is fairing now.

Argeed with this comment.

I quite like Peter Mitchell as a newsreader

Peter Hitchener does a lot of social media(or Nine does) while I find 7 in Melbourne is more a team(Local and interstate) with coverage.

I can’t see that happening. Not for a long mile.

I can easily see Alicia Loxley being next in line. The ratings on weekends are huge compared to Seven, especially on Sunday where I think she had an 80k gap.

Sean Berry has resigned from 7 News. Now working as media advisor for NSW Premier.

I wonder who’ll be Seven’s new NSW Politics reporter? Sarina Andaloro? We’ll see Sarah Navin (Prime7’s NSW Politics and ā€œGeneric Regional Issuesā€ correspondent, who occasionally does reports for Seven News Sydney) go metro on a fulltime basis? Or someone else entirely?

I reckon one of those two will get the gig vacated by Sean Berry.

Rare reason as to why ratings doesn’t always determines someone’s future!

Mark Ferguson would be another one - his track record is probably even worse than Peter Mitchell’s because Seven News Sydney have won less than 20 (but more than 10, I’m pretty sure) of 240 ratings weeks between 2014 and 2019.

From my count, exactly ten (seven in 2016 and one each in the past three years).

I think it actually might be 13 weeks, because Seven News Sydney did enjoy ratings victory in three weeks during November 2015 (which was at least a mild improvement on Mark Ferguson’s first year, when Nine won all 40 weeks just as they did in 2013)!

But of course with Michael Usher filling in during the single ratings week Seven News Sydney won last year, Fergo has won no more than twelve!

I also wonder how many weeks Ross Symonds and Ann Sanders won together between 1998-2003. I’d think only two (the two weeks during the Sydney Olympics in 2000).
