Talitha Cummins backing up from Sunrise this morning and presenting the national 5pm bulletin today.
[/quote] And highly likely the weather on Seven News Sydney. Considering her colleagues this weekend on Sunrise worked all last week and over this weekend, it is expected.

Why did Seven send Matthew Snelson from Sydney to WA to cover the bushfires, instead of asking Perth-based reporters to file reports for interstate bulletins (like the ABC)?

Ferguson and Wilson return in Sydney tonight.

most often because local reporters are flat out getting their local angles and stories for the local audience without having to extend and report nationally… it also has the benefit of more people on the ground. Nine did the same, sending Emily Rice over.

Correct.

Seven seem to send a journo from Melbourne or Sydney, when a major event happens in South Australia, WA, etc.

Because local journos have their own local spin, etc + this sounds harsh but the journos in Melbourne and Sydney tend to be more experienced, older, better in front of camera, etc + more national identity (Sunrise, national bulletins, etc)?

Same goes for South Australia fires in Januray last year, WA’s first fires late last year, South Australia car into water tragedy the other week, etc.

There be a number of reasons probably?

What?

The paragraph about the journos having their own local viewpoint/spin that Melbourne or Sydney producers don’t want?

Or the examples from last year paragraph?

Eitherway they’re my own opinions/views thanks.

the idea that reporters outside of Sydney or Melbourne are ‘junior’.
it’s just because local journos are busy doing local stories, and with smaller teams, makes sense to bring somebody in to do stuff for the national audience.

That’s not just what I was saying.

I was mainly talking about their own local perspective on a major event. Which may not need to be broadcast to Melbourne, Sydney, etc. at all.

Sending a reporter over from the east, puts a better national perspective on it, for all viewers.

How would you know what producers, etc want?

Cath Turner will be moving to London to join Hugh Whitfeld as Seven’s Europe and UK correspondants. Will start mid Feb.

Wow, can’t believe they are investing in a second European correspondent. But it is definitely warranted. Pity I don’t like Cath much as a reporter.

Great move and one that should actually make use of Cath’s talents/experience. Am a little surprised that they elected to base a second correspondent in London though rather than having somebody either on the continent or in the Middle East.

I wonder where this leaves Ben Lewis.

Seven wont need to use Ben Lewis anymore.Ben has many roles on the go anyway in the UK.
