Seven News Presenters and Reporters (2015-Sept 2020)

Or Kay McGrath on weekends.

Possibly yes, if they want to stay competitive with Nine in the ratings.

For whatever reason, Queenslanders have traditionally preferred news bulletins fronted by two newsreaders to the point that the #1 rating TV news bulletins over the last 3-4 decades (possibly even longer than that, going right back to the start of TV in Brisbane or close to it?) have been those with two newsreaders at the helm.

I’m sure @TV.Cynic knows a bit more about the history of the Brisbane TV news market and can explain further, but the situation up there seems to be very different compared to Sydney & Melbourne where a single male newsreader has generally been the traditional favourite with TV news viewers.

Don’t know, you’d have to ask them I suppose.

Not to mention every Ten News presenter in every market.

The Courier-Mail reveals Max Futcher will take BTQ’s anchor chair with Sharyn from next Monday.

Eh. That’s gonna do nothing to the damage that’s already done after shafting Kay and Rod.

So why aren’t they promoting him? I’ve seen nothing yet

Well Max isn’t going to be a drawcard to improve ratings. 7 would be better to have single presenters, Kay weekdays, Sharyn weekends.

:man_facepalming: They should have just renewed Bill’s contract. There will be NO ratings improvement.

And Sharyn used to win on weekends too.

And they could have had Max and Kendall Gilding on weekends to build up their profile and competence. Then in five years or so, they can transition to the main chair…

Not sure why this is even being suggested, he took the opportunity to step down from the news desk.

In my opinion Max seemed like the natural choice to step up into Bill’s position if they were looking to hire within the team and not disrupt their GC news team and Kay on weekends - which she could very well be happy with.

It was a mutual decision, Seven wanted him removed from the news desk because the ratings were/are poor.

He agreed, and decided to pursue other options.

Fine. Don’t disrupt your second-rating GC news because it is of higher priority to the metro-bulletin.

Is Max Futcher the best option? The most experienced? The most trusted? Popular? IMO, no.

No. But are the 7 hierarchy going to admit they made a monumental stuff up by replacing Rod and Kay by reinstating one or both of them? No.
Heck, 7 are still pretending Mark Ferguson was a good decision.

Are they? Yes 9 is beating 7, but not by that much.

Anything in today’s Sunday Mail re Max? I refuse to buy the paper.

Apparently

Because Rod & Kay had set the viewing pattern the other five nights during weeknights.

Thanks

As much as I’d like to say that both Kay & Rod should be reinstated to the weeknight bulletins in Queensland, with the latter presenter now working on the Gold Coast bulletin I think that ship has sailed.

Surely very serious questions will have to be asked about the future of Mark Ferguson’s position as the lead newsreader of Seven News Sydney if they aren’t beating Nine in the ratings by at least 50k every night during the Commonwealth Games?

Heck, even if Seven News Sydney manages to smash Nine in the ratings during GC2018, serious questions should still be asked about Fergo’s position when viewing habits go back to normal (ie, Nine usually winning) in homes across Sydney one the Games are over.

Serious questions should have been asked for years now. But with 7 Sydney failing below 200k recently and often trailing 9 by 50k in 2018, it’s time to bite the bullet… Bath was supposedly replaced due to ratings, yet 7 persists with Ferguson whose ratings pale in comparison to Bath’s when she was demoted.

Another serious question needs to be asked, who should Seven poach?
