Soon as they went off for bad light, that was pretty well the day done, its hard to come back from a light call

Then the rain & lightning came over soon after from a Severe T-Storm which swept across Sydney

So either way - Even if there wasn’t any bad light, The storm would’ve cancelled it due to Lightning or Rain

But the resumption of play is then dictated by the light returning to an acceptable level, in the event that the rain passes and the ground can be returned to play.

There was about a 40-minute gap between going off for the light and the rain having an impact - the timing wasn’t brilliant because the normal tea break would have been during that period too.

It’s a safety issue more than anything. The colour of the ball makes it difficult to see in poor light conditions, which isn’t ideal when it is coming at you at upwards of 140kph. So once the light levels fall to a level the umpires deem dangerous, they suspend play until the light returns.

Exactly. If it was the rain that caused it, play can resume as soon as the field is deemed safe to play on. With the light, you are basically playing a waiting game until the umpires are happy enough that it is safe to continue.

Fair enough..

Still wonder if they can beat my record of getting hit in the head with a Basketball 9 Times… (Somehow didn’t end up in a coma each time)

It’s also ICC rules. There has always been argument that “well if it’s bad light just uses the lights” but ICC won’t allow it, due to potential glare from the lights. :man_shrugging:

Potential Glare? Wait till they see a real Glare… the Glare that comes from a car with its Highbeams on.. and they are LEDs.. on an Outback road

Now THAT’S a Glare.. and free eye blindness

Yeah, I know it’s pretty stupid.

It’s this one isn’t it?

More suited to an Olympics promo IMO than a news promo…

It was hot in Melbourne today:

Earlier in the day

Why is the weather presenter dressed like she’s off Real Housewives of Melbourne?

Yeah she’s very much a brunette Barbie.
Watching her present is worse, she looks so out of place and wooden.

When was the last time Melbourne had a good weather presenter, I remember it was David Brown. why he was replace I don’t know.

7Melb see Jane Bunn as a draw card, men apparently fawn over her (don’t know why).

Brown was moved to Sydney to break up the “boys” club that was 7news Melbourne apparently.

I find she SHOUTS like she’s doing an outside broadcast…. when she’s in the studio :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember there was major backlash when Brown was removed from the Melbourne bulletin during the 2012-13 summer period, and while he was appointed network meteorologist had his on-air presence limited to just presenting the weather on the national afternoon news (though would also later appear on the national morning news and the Sydney 6:00pm bulletin before retiring in 2020), with Giaan Rooney replacing him on weeknights on the Melbourne bulletin.

I can’t recall the last time I watched Melbourne news, Jane Bunn sings the weather. Peter Mitchell can’t seem to sit straight and look at the camera, always appears to be uncomfortable or at the wrong angle. When Tim Watson did sport he seemed to stumble over his words, it wasn’t pleasant viewing.

They would need to bring in some great people to entice me to attempt watching again.
