Seven News Content and Appearance

Lets move on from this now. Rob is on this forum often, responds to feedback and interacts regarding his own content. Unless were going to hold every single journalist doing similar work to the same standard, the point has been made and I think its completely off topic now.

Nothing wrong with a bit of discussion about it bust its been done now. I want to read about Seven News Content and Appearance not some little nuance about one story that really isn’t that big of a story.

This has been overdone. Move on.

Details matter.

I’m going to leave it now.

This forum does my head in. Rob gets so much criticism and hate here most of the time when he’s actually on the money and correct and the one time he isn’t he’s being defended by the guard dogs.

He’s not a bad guy at all by no means but you have to be able to put your hand up when you’ve publicly given wrong information whether it was by accident or not. That’s all.

Like I said earlier. You just can’t win.

I think you need some lessons in perspective.

And that’s all I’ve got left to say.

To be fair, you have a bit of a reputation here for repetitive arguments, nobody is every going to agree. People often rebut me on points I make or miss my line of thinking, OR take it out of context, and it drives me insane but I don’t sit on here and have a back and forth about it till the cows come home I just move on.

With much respect to all

Alex Cullen is relocating to Melbourne to join the GOLD104.3 breakfast show.

So we could have a situation where Alex is doing breakfast radio in the morning, then the afternoon news show on Seven later in the day.

that’s good, there aren’t enough lads doing banal breakfast radio then presenting on tv later in the day. hopefully they can also find some sport coverage to give him some exposure too on the weekends, save having to waste time on giving any new talent any opportunities.

Seven Adelaide breached captioning rules

The ACMA has found that Channel Seven Adelaide Pty Ltd failed to comply with the captioning rules in the broadcast of Seven News Adelaide.

The ACMA investigation found that captioning provided for the program broadcast on 20 October 2024 did not meet the readability, accuracy and comprehensibility factors in the Captioning Standard.

The investigation was based on a complaint that captioning provided for the program was of an unsatisfactory standard.

The licensee explained that overloading of a relay server caused captioning to drop out for a short period during the broadcast of the program.

The licensee also explained that the captioning failure was investigated and an additional relay server has been put in place to prevent recurrence of the issue.

The ACMA accepted the licensee’s explanation that the failure to comply with the Captioning Standard was caused by a technical issue that it could not have reasonably foreseen. Such unforeseen technical failures may be disregarded as non-compliance under the Standard.

On that basis, the ACMA will not be taking any enforcement action at this time and will continue to monitor the licensee’s compliance with the captioning rules.

ACMA at its finest…taking eight months for a finding on captions.

and what a non issue too. I am sure even the most reliant on captions would understand a temporary issue due to a major technical mishap.

I don’t understand why the captioning rules are so strict.

If captions are your only way to watch television, I’d imagine you’d be pretty peeved if it wasn’t working. Especially during the news.

It’s the equivalent of technical issues affecting the broadcast with a glitchy picture or fluctuating audio.

Brisbane really needs to get moving on some kind of campaign to bring viewers back, not just to their 6pm
News but across the board. If Sarah isn’t returning any time soon, start a promo showcasing the entire team?
Nobody Knows Brisbane Like Seven.
More generally, bring back the old Love You Queensland. It’s been revamped / revisited a few times over the years and seems to work each time.

I am predicting, with a bit of background on movements, that Sarah will return late August. She may end up returning around the same time Joel Dry starts.

Sarah and Joel are good friends, so it’ll be a friendly rivalry on the mountain.

I think their only hope for a turnaround is a stronger lead-in.

The actual bulletin they produce in Brisbane is quite strong… so it’s not through lack of effort from the brissy newsroom.

I agree. I don’t think it’s the 7News team or bulletin that’s the problem either.

It’s The Chase. It’s being defeated and it’s hurting the news real bad.

I think the bulletin has become less “attractive” this year with the addition of all the non-local content from various “editors” etc. Stories that were in the past presented by local talent are now done centrally in Sydney or Melbourne, sometimes by unrecognised reporters and distributed. The majority of the promoted story of the day are seen across the network as well with just the city names changed. It feels less local compared to Nine.

I’d have Tony on the road, presenting the weather each night from local community events and festivals. Even local football clubs. I think networks nowadays underestimate the impact community tie-ins can have on getting people to sample their product.
I was up in Brisbane a couple of months ago and noticed Nine still had their weatherman on location each night, with promos during the break saying ‘join the Nine News team at…’ promoting some local festival.

A shame that Inside Media has stopped as we are only episodes away from 9News out-rating 7NEWS nationally, what I’m sure would have been covered at length without fear or favour.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Seven News Digital

More suggestions in The Australian that Alex Cullen will indeed helm the new afternoon show on Seven in addition to his new role on breakfast radio in Melbourne.

Cullen has relocated his family to Melbourne in part to take on the job, with the show to receive a little extra hands-on care – at least initially – from Seven wunderkind and former Sydney news chief, Sean Power, who has also relocated to the southern capital this month for a new role as the network’s director of news integration and strategy.
As things stand, Cullen plans to work mornings on radio and afternoons on television
