So tonight is the final broadcast from BCM?
Yep think so. End of an era
unless something goes wrong - Jane Bunn mentioned that they would be in the new studio on Monday.
Tonight’s Melbourne bulletin will include a report on Seven’s 23 years at BCM and its relocation to Collins Street.
Note: an extended version of the report, narrated by Mike Amor, will be available on 7News Melbourne’s socials. Karina Carvalho also said that she would present the 4pm news from the new Collins Street studios on Monday.
Full final segment from BCM Docklands.
The package was better than I expected, especially seeing as an extended one will be uploaded. A fitting send off from the team, there’d be many viewers completely unaware too, including the site itsself and its history.
Wonder if the network failure 20 years ago just ahead of the month might get a mention, during a major Heelers story arc?
I thought the bulletin ender might’ve panned and zoomed out from some of the building, like the newsroom or corridors or the big red 7 exterior or a test pattern as a gag. But given the packages and the verbal mention at the end I think that was fine.
Place your bets. Is the BCM set/set elements going to Adelaide or Perth?
- Adelaide
- Perth
- Somewhere else
Tassie?
Took them 23 years to use a gorgeous closing shot like this??
I’ll miss complaining about the position of the desk
Let’s see how it goes tomorrow night! Great lookback at BCM.
Good package despite it not really showcasing BCM.
Interesting the scale of the original pitch for BCM, ended up being less than half that size.
Also… this looks like a still backdrop behind the desk/AI
I really hope Perth. It would be a massive improvement on the horrible green screen which needs to go!
Surely Perth.
If they can shell out on this new digs for Melbourne, surely they can ship over the set pieces and add some more modern LEDs to the desk and backdrop.
To the bottom-left of this cap you can see the space that BCM would eventually occupy - I can’t tell if construction had started on it yet. This would’ve been from March 9, 2000 - the day the very first AFL match was played at Docklands Stadium, between Essendon and Port Adelaide.

Yes interesting concept of what BCM could have been. From the looks of it there were plans to move more South Melbourne operations over to Docklands. The large production studios could have been there. Plus a helicopter landing pad.
