Seven News Content and Appearance

No, they did this last year for 4 weeks. Local editions returned in January. They have just reinstated the SA edition so it’s not going anywhere.

He mentions 7News being the number 3 commercial news website with the top 3 being very close. Does anyone have more details on this?

Perhaps McPherson was referring to the recent Nielsen digital ratings?

Seven plans to address the Brisbane battle with some tweaks to its Gold Coast bulletin content.

“The Gold Coast is the biggest viewing region in Queensland, where we had had a good couple of years. This year, we didn’t go as well as we did last year. So we’ve got some plans to attend to that. Essentially if you can win the Gold Coast, you win the Brisbane market.”

I wonder what changes Seven are planning in the Gold Coast and Queensland markets.

Amanda Abate is heading off on maternity leave next year too, so I wonder if they’ll give Rod a co-presenter or have him go solo.

I also reckon they should re-instate Paul Burt and Liz Cantor to the GC bulletin. I’m sure a lot of people from the Coast enjoyed the surfing and coastal reports, which they only get two days a week now.

I’ve seen similar from throughout the year which have 7 as high as third ahead of 9.

Can anyone explain the logic behind how winning the Gold Coast means winning Brisbane? Maybe south-east QLD but Brisbane (which is the cap city) has it’s own problems which need to be addressed separately. Surely?

The only reason I can think of is that it provides a good lead-in to the 6pm news, assuming viewers don’t switch from Seven’s GC news to Nine’s 6pm News !

Maybe they’ll extend the Gold Coast bulletin to one hour to get a jump on Nine, from 5pm to 6pm? Then that would move The Chase Australia to a 4pm to 5pm slot, and they won’t receive the local 4pm news at all then.

I think there is a lot more to the Brisbane ratings than winning the 5.30 Gold Coast news. Perhaps looking for some reason behind Seven’s comparatively poor performance this year. In 2019 Seven won 30 weeks to Nine’s 10 in Brisbane in the ratings period. That went to Nine winning this year 26 to 14.

Someone tried to explain it to me once. It’s all very confusing and to do with who lives where. Viewers who receive GC news contribute to the Brisbane ratings? I know that ratings of The Chase at 5.30 are also made up of the GC News. Does that make sense?

no mention of 7 getting absolutely slaughtered in Melbourne after winning on weeks won in 2019.

Rare to see Seven News Sydney start with a harbour live shot for the first story last night.

How the bulletin would usually look for the first story:

What has Blake done to come across as narcissistic and horrid?

You’ve gone quiet now?

You seem to have a lot to say about Seven News Melbourne and the quality of its presenters and reporters…

I’m really not that obsessed, it’s just me making record on here of presenter changes for those who really do care about it. And I’m not the only one to comment of the presenter changes on this forum.

And even if I was obsessed with it, what does that have to do with me asking you why Blake Johnson is a horrid person?

Ann also said “Live across Sydney” earlier in the bulletin - wonder if it were autocue or habit.

It’s still the worst day of the news year when she goes on holidays though!

I’m not questioning anyone, I was just wondering why you would say that Blake is horrid and narcissistic. It’s a pretty bold claim to make about someone if you don’t know them personally.

And the majority of the stuff I post in the Presenters and Reporters thread is just who is filling in for who, which is a good way of keeping up with rising talent at networks and who is being given network opportunities, and for anyone who’s interested in the information. There are many other people who post who is filling in for who too, not just me. It’s not as if I’m stalking their private lives away from work.

I’ve been up in Brisbane for a bit and I have an uncanny knack of watching the bulletin that wins the ratings for that night, whether 7 or 9. I have always been loyal to 7, and in fact have previously considered 9 News somewhat tacky, but there’s something about the first story and the headlines that either keep you there or make you switch - and that’s clear in the ratings each night in Brisbane. In NSW, though, I usually wouldn’t even consider changing the channel.

I think 7 feels a bit more traditional, where 9 is a bit faster-paced and more modern… but I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is. If 7 updated the set it could (?) make a difference. Just speculation :slightly_smiling_face:

From what I’ve heard, Black Johnson is one of the nicest reporters in the newsroom?

I’ve heard hes quite nice outside of it too…?
