Yes Sharyn was a good addition to the Gold Coast coverage.
Though, it is starting to feel like there is too much coverage now. Not sure how many more experts can tell us they don’t know what happened.
Seems to happen a lot with Australian media, to give saturation coverage to bad news stories until the public starts to switch off.

In yesterday’s ratings Seven News won Brisbane at 6pm by 2,000 after The Chase was 30k ahead at 5.30pm. The Nine won at 6.30 by 16,000. Nine’s audience got bigger across the hour while Seven dropped by 18k.
This is a consistent pattern for Seven, but yesterday I wonder if their prolonged coverage of the helicopter crash might have contributed. I was surprised to see them come back to the story in the second half of the bulletin, once for another expert opinion, then later again for a recap.

You have to wonder how journalists with integrity like Michael Usher feel about fronting this. (see below from today’s news).
This just feels unnecessary. I know it’s from the helicopter that’s passengers survived, but it still feels disrespectful and tasteless.

It’s also very current here in Qld and people are struggling to understand how it happened. I don’t think there’s any malice.
Seems strange that such video is not already in the possession of the authorities. Why would the passenger provide it to a TV channel before the ATSB?

Becasue in the video it said “the vision will be passed on to the experts investigation the tragedy”.

Sunrise showed the vision again this morning, cutting off exactly as in the video above. However, on Seven News it played for longer and showed when the helicopter cockpit was hit with debris flying everywhere.
This version of the video was also shown on Today this morning complete with 7 watermark.

Heading into a very tabloid / US Style broadcast era it seems. (If not already there?!) Bad taste or inevitable?
A big issue for me is how a passenger on the helicopter wasn’t asked by ATSB to hand over any video before now. I would have thought they would want that sort of evidence immediately in case it suggested an urgent safety issue.

And the man on the left of this cameraman also has his phone out videoing. You’d think it would also be valuable footage. Hopefully the authorities have it. The police have asked anyone who has anything to come forward.

9 morning news also showing the tragedy (but not the actual moment of impact) from a different angle this morning. Labelled “exclusive”.
It doesn’t show death, it doesn’t show blood or injury. It doesn’t even show those who died. I don’t have an issue with it.
They person who shot it may have synced it to the cloud or Dropboxed. Just because 7 has it doesn’t mean ATSB doesn’t.

Seven’s news report said that they would pass the vision to authoritie , so if you believe that, the authorities didn’t have it.
