Perhaps, but I wouldn’t dwell on it. Their job is to present the news, not show us the funny stuff from behind the scenes. I’d try move on without little fuss or fanfare.
And that’s why they should just leave the Brisbane bulletin alone and provide a Brisbane audience with local Brisbane headlines.
With this latest axing, viewers on the GC will flock on over to 9News Gold Coast in droves for their local bulletin fixed, once that happens I find it hard to imagine viewers coming back to Seven if they did instate it again for a 3rd time in the future, but as per @Radiohead, there probably won’t.
If Nine axes their local bulletin next then it means either watching NBN News and getting mostly Lismore stories or they’ll just pay antenna technicians to change their aerial directions for Brisbane.
Or they’ll just listen to the radio. Simple.
The thing is, the cancellation has shown that people were already watching 9 Gold Coast over 7 Gold Coast so I don’t think they will be the mass movement over to 9 what you think.
What nonsense. Nine has had a local news since 1996. Seven for many many years saw no need to invest in a local news, especially after their first attempt in 1998-99. This is how it’ll be for the foreseeable future. There are viewers who simply aren’t home at 5.30pm and there’s also viewers who don’t want to invest their time watching local news. Seven will cater for this.
NBN’s ratings on the Gold Coast are miniscule. I can assure you nobody’s going to start watching Lismore stories and the even more non relevant stories about Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital and the Newcastle Knights if Nine suddenly pulled out of the market. Also most households around Coomera and southwards can pick up both the metro and regional channels.
Maybe because of the time difference, Perth could record a local Adelaide bulletin? That way Adelaide still receive local news, just that it’s being produced in a different city to save money.
I’d be so curious to know more about this
Maybe I am naïve or parochial, but I just can’t see that being a genuine discission.
The 5 metro 6pm bulletins will be the last things standing.
More likely they cut resources that are there earlier in the day first (i.e. studio staff start later so no more local morning news, local updates start later in the afternoon, etc ).
Exactly.
Morning News will go soon, it’ll just end for Christmas and never come back when the Midday Newshour starts.
Not shocked at all about GC news, it’s not really a proper market, it’s basically a repeater transmitter. 7 News QLD should be able to cover the entire Brisbane-GC regions in an hour news service.
This is what I said would happen when they announced Midday news. No chance they’d keep it.
Expect the loss of Perth/Adelaide morning news and Adelaide 5PM weekend news.
It has boggled my mind that these small markets have been receiving local morning bulletins for so long.
oh morning yes, but not the primetime 6pm bulletin?
Absolutely not. No chance.
the uproar of that decision would be mind-boggling!
First night of Gold Coast joining Brisbane News and the first story is Gold Coast based. I really don’t think Brisbane viewers will like this.
Are you sure the GC just hasn’t been promoted to the Brisbane set with two new anchors
Perth needs it due to the time difference. 2-3 hours old news is not going to cut it out here.
Exactly, you guys even get your own Sunrise inserts. Perth is 7’s golden goose. There is no way they will cut any of your news.
As for Adelaide, maybe they’ll cut the daytime bulletins but there’s no way 6pm will be axed. No way. They’d be handing viewers over to Channel 9 by the bucketload. It simply won’t happen.

Exactly - Seven knows not to fuck around with their Adelaide base after the cuts in 2020
Seven seems to have stopped posting stories to the their X account but the Facebook page with +300k followers is still active.
