Seven News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

It’s only a matter of time until the free to air commercials follow ABC and do state wide bulletins.

Your telling me that @Nicholas didn’t end up breaking into the studios with the flowers on behalf of us here while wearing a MediaSpy shirt?

In all seriousness, disappointing that there wasn’t a tribute at the end of the bulletin, although I guess Seven have been pushing that they will still have a Gold Coast team, and that stories will be covered in 6pm + neither of the main presenters are leaving - only the sports presenter (Sally Pearson) is by the sounds of it.

The main concern would be for me what is actually going to be removed from the rundown for them to insert more Gold Coast news into the bulletin?

Surely Brisbane viewers would be annoyed if they were to loose local stories for them to show more Gold Coast stories which would largely be irrelevant to them.

Sorry! I was a bit drunk from all the wine they provided in first class (thanks again mods) and ended up with flowers at the QTQ9 studio for Nine News Darwin

Sally’s comments are at 16:10 - she probably says more than Steve in the closing. You have to assume that the viewers know it is the final bulletin.

A real shame. Gold Coast will hit 1 million residents in the next 10 years.

Shame network HQ in Sydney lost faith in the market

A local window approach would be ideal - if they structure the bulletin with windows for “hyper local” stories - one for Brisbane done live, and a pre-record for Gold Coast, that’d make it easier for when it comes to chopping down the bulletin to 30 minutes for regional areas.

If they could promote their Gold Coast coverage well, perhaps continuing to do unique news updates which call out those Gold Coast stories, they probably could provide a service superior to Nine.

Jeez, talk about awkward ending.

I’m surprised you were able to squeeze fit into the broom cupboard they use along with the presenter

Pray that @bacco007 doesn’t have to sell off the hamsters that run the site in order to pay for the all the high end wine you had on that flight. And the flight back as well

Agree - if they can still justify a bulletin for Adelaide by then, then surely the Gold Coast deserves one.

IMO, the only way a Gold Coast bulletin would be a success if it was an hour long 7 day a week composite bulletin - local, state, national and international in one hour - no sitting through 90 minutes to get all your news. Would’ve required a second control room somewhere (either at BTQ or on the coast), but would’ve been worth it.

It’s not that bad. Not doing a package showcasing what the team has delivered over the past eight years and explaining what is happening is a shame though. You could still spin it as ending one chapter and starting a new one.

So Steve has the gig of the nightly slot. If he gets the sports gig as tipped here, I imagine they will just phase out the Gold Coast feature eventually. Sounds like Sally is off. But Amanda? Interesting…

I guess Amanda will do reporting & fill in presenting for the afternoon news like she’s done in the past.

Dunno, what I watched was very ordinary - it’s like they wanted to say more but couldn’t.

All just sat there at the end awkwardly not really knowing what to do.

THIS 100%

Dont know why they did not try replaying the Gold Coast News on Prime at 6pm followed by 7 regional 30 minute national news at 6:30 instead of the full Sydney bulliten. Give local advertisers more bang for there buck.

Probably to protect BTQ ratings.

The Gold Coast is the hardest market to guage in Australia, such an eclectic region, so many things have failed over the decades. Houses many ex-pats from outside Queensland and even Australia. Not your typical market at all.

Why would they? This isn’t Sunrise. What would a straight news bulletin, not in a capital city, too, possibly show in a montage?

Clips of the team from over the years, behind the scenes stuff that didn’t make it to air.
