Seven News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

Could also do what Sydney did and have one half for news, and the other half for AFL coverage - would depend on if they have enough space though.

Call me crazy, but it would be cheaper to just update the key and more importantly buy a more powerful computer that can handle the key.

I mean look in the US and NZ, they have managed to make it look wonderful and theres really no excuses as to why 7 Perth couldn’t.

I presume they go by the logic of “If it ain’t broke and we’re number 1…”

Wasn’t it from Sydney?

I was referring the old Melbourne desk they ended up using for the 2018 Election and local AFL coverage.

Doesn’t seem like a hand-me-down. Looks like all cities had the same set for maybe a year once Perth finally got theirs

…until Sydney and Melbourne’s curved set, then Adelaide and Brisbane cannibalising the bones of their sets to make new ones :face_with_peeking_eye:

Sydney (June 2010)

Melbourne (March 2010)

Brisbane (December 2010)

Adelaide (July 2010)

Perth (April 2010)

That set, graphics and theme they were the days.

Probably the last time that all states were in line with each other, rather the mismatch we have now.

Seven Perth had a weirdly scaled version of the twisted metal set. Seemed far taller than Sydney and other markets. It’s probably just the older tech STW had at the time making everything look a bit older.

Also ironic in that 2010 cap from STW they’re bouncing Ben Cousins outside court, now he reads their afternoon sport. How Perthy.

Just reminded myself of another pet peeve with STW’s twisted metal set. The way they shot sport standing with Baz meant you could see the light fixtures behind the metal plates. Once I noticed I could not unsee :upside_down_face:

They used the same v/o intro for nearly 8 years too, at least in Sydney and Melbourne (who was also the main network v/o from the early 2000s and later Prime7), from 2005 - 2012.

Was only Sydney, Melbourne and national bulletins who had the same V/O - the rest used local talent (i.e. Mike Higgins in Queensland, etc).

Brisbane eventually adopted the same V/O artist as the other eastern states sometime around 2011/2012.

Yesterday was the first time that ratings were available that would help gauge the impact, if any, cancelling the Gold Coast bulletin had.

And the result does not look good. The Brisbane bulletin posted its lowest Tuesday rating so far this year. I looked back at the records and it is the lowest Tuesday for at least 5 years (the ratings 5 years ago were so much higher than now it wasn’t worth looking back any further). The Chase result at 5pm that previously included the Gold Coast ratings was the lowest for a Tuesday this year (and previous years).

It will be interesting to see if the network can claw back the lost viewers in coming weeks.

Steve and Amanda are due to present the Mayor’s Christmas Carols this weekend on the Gold Coast.

I imagine that will still happen… but i wonder what they’ll be introduced as.

Most likely as Steve Titmus and Amanda Abate from Channel 7/7 News

who was the V/O for Sydney and Melbourne and Adelaide at the time?

I don’t know, but Sydney and Melbourne had the same V/O, while Adelaide had someone else. Perth had Fred Botica from at least the 90s until 2020.
