Was this cross live though? Or is it pre-recorded?
The last few days the early news has been opening with no headlines and a title card that has a photo of the Opera house in it:
Doesn’t he always do it though? I feel like it’s not new him popping up on Sunrise and TMS?
Correct. Though looking better now with the new set.
Keep expecting to hear he has been “poached” by the Sydney bulletin.
I remember David Brown (former Melbourne weatherman) was hired by ATN to present their weather; at first I thought he was deputising for Sarah Cumming who went on maternity leave at the end of 2015, only for him to remain until 2020 when he returned to Melbourne.
Fair to say he has retired, as he hasn’t appeared on television since.
Angela wearing white on a white background during the finance report was not the best idea.
Knowing how LED panels and cameras work, there’s always a minimum distance from the panels required for talent positions versus camera positions based on the LED
pixel resolution of the screens to not get any moire effect visible on camera. The desk is likely set off the screens to avoid that issue.
The problem isn’t the desk being offset from the screens, the problem is that they’re using camera angles that highlight it.
Naturally it’s a new set and they’re still learning what works best, but they’ve already found some good angles that hide the offset quite well.
I remember there was a video on YouTube of the Seven News Brisbane opener from January 2012, when the “new” set debuted on the evening of the Australian Open men’s final. In the flashbacks segment that evening there was a history of news presentation at BTQ, including the dismantling of the twisted metal set at the end of the Friday evening bulletin. Think that video may have been taken down not long ago
One detail I like is the date on the desk - shame Melbourne never persisted with this.
A vertical screen like Sydney would certainly help disguise the void on the RHS of the set.
Plus, give them a different style presentation area.
Perhaps it’s still coming? Or they may save it until the new year…
Bulletin is controlled from Sydney. They just take the one feed unfortunately.
I think the only gripe I have with Seven’s new Brisbane set is just that the desk is too small, it should have been longer on each side which would have given it a better perspective, used the area better and hidden things like the cables running along the back, bin, storage etc when they use that side shot.
It looks perfectly sized here:
It’s just those really wide angles that are off.
