Seven News Presents: World’s Best Metro

Thursday at 8pm - Sydney, Brisbane

It’s one of the greatest feats in Australian engineering history.

A new 21st century metro railway linking Sydney’s ever-expanding suburbs to the beating heart of the city – one that will include twin tunnels under the harbour and the CBD itself.

The critics said it couldn’t be done. That it was just too hard – an engineering feat on par with London’s extraordinary Cross Rail project under the Thames and Australia’s legendary Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme.

But the critics were wrong.

The result is testament to Australian ingenuity and daring. And the vision will blow your socks off.

In less than 16 months, four massive tunnel boring machines have travelled 30 kilometres to create two tunnels deep under suburbia, with almost five million tonnes of rock excavated along the way.

Cameras have been deep underground following the 9000-strong workforce – 390 of them tunnellers – operating day and night to carve out the new subterranean masterpiece.

On track to open to customers in the first half of 2019, the $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest will deliver eight new railway stations and 4000 car parking spaces for commuters in the booming Hill’s district of north-west Sydney. The project is Stage 1 of Sydney Metro, Australia’s biggest public transport project.

Seven News’ Lee Jeloscek has the exclusive inside story of the epic project which has the world watching.

And he meets the dedicated Australian team responsible for its engineering, construction and implementation.

Can’t imagine a special focusing on a Sydney rail project will rate too well in Brisbane

Have these “Don’t Miss” graphics been used anywhere other than on the Gold Coast bulletin?

Aside from the fact that the transition graphic doesn’t extend across the entire screen (although not a big deal with overscan if you watched this on TV), it’s still better than the godawful one that Seven News Sydney uses (or at least used the last I checked) which was so bad that it honestly looked like something made with Microsoft Powerpoint!

NSW Government paying for this? Sounds like an infomercial. Bizarre they are airing it in Brisbane too.

I thought it might have been a mistake, but it is showing up in the EPG in Brisbane.

I don’t get the hate for the current theme. Its more original than the previous 2004-2016 one. It’s just a remixed version the current NBC theme.

The new theme has grown on me, I have just felt it doesn’t suit the current graphics package. The Gold Coast ender showcased the unheard parts which made it sound more like the NBC Nightly News theme. It’s good for the time being :+1:

I also heard the slow note enders that Seven has used which is nearly identical to what some of the NBC Nightly News bulletins use. I am planning to relocate to NY later this year (only for a few months) so will get to hear the NBC version more.

Although the 1999-2004 version is awesome it’s based off the original 80s mix while the current 2016 version is based off the updated NBC version. Although it does stray away (Headlines) the parts of the mission does sound the same as the NBC one however the 2004-2016 one was one part of the mission of how they wrecked it (the famous note was never complete they just hacked it). Least if they choose to go back to a more generic sounding NBC mission, they can do this with the current theme than the previous (while the current theme retains the whole famous note)

New intro flyover for 7 News Melbourne?

I still can’t warm to Seven News’ current theme music. To my ears, it sounds a bit too slow and there’s not enough instrumentation. Almost like something that would’ve preceded the 2004-16 theme, rather than succeeded it.

What a joke for a ‘news’ organisation to broadcast something which is nothing more than glorified government propganda
