##seven News Investigates – In Cold Blood: The Chris Lane Story
Tuesday 28 June at 8.30pm
He was Australia’s rising sports star, who went to America to pursue his baseball dream.
Then the unthinkable happened. On Friday, August 16, 2013, Chris Lane set off for his afternoon jog in southern Oklahoma – a route he’d run many times before – when he was gunned down from behind by three callous and bored teenage joyriders.
Suffering severe internal injuries to his heart and lungs, Chris died on the side of the road. He was 22 years old.
The three teenage boys – aged just 15, 16 and 17 at the time of the attack – are now behind bars. Last week the youngest of the three, James Edwards Jnr, was sentenced to 25 years as an accessory after the fact. The driver that day, Michael Jones, will spend at least 38 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. Chancey Luna, the boy who pulled the trigger, will never be released.
But the full story behind this heartless crime has never been told.
In a world exclusive Seven News investigation, international award-winning journalist Mike Amor comes face-to-face with one of the killers who has shock admissions from behind prison walls about why and how he and his mates mercilessly took Chris’ life.
We hear from Chris’ parents and girlfriend in their first in-depth television interviews about his death and enduring legacy.
Featuring never-before-seen video, we uncover details of that day never revealed. And the police at the centre of the investigation detail how they tracked down Chris’ killers.

This looks like to be the Gold Coast news set
And it looks like Brisbane isn’t get a new set anytime soon… :0
If only 7 News went for some consistency with news sets…especially considering Sydney set is only new. They could of implemented something in Sydney that looked similar to the Gold Coast. Then, over time refresh every market with a consistent set.
I agree, but consistency in On-Air Presentation certainly isn’t one of Seven News’ strong points.
One thing that really annoys me about the new Gold Coast set (and the ones in Sydney & Brisbane for that matter too) is how blue is the dominant colour when Seven traditionally goes for red in it’s branding!
If anything the rest of the country would follow Sydney’s set, which I think is highly inspired by NBC.
Very nice set from the looks of things.
I do think it looks more modern than the current Brisbane set though.
Personally I’m reserving my full judgement until we see all elements of the new Seven Gold Coast News set but judging by that sneak peak in the promo, it’s nothing too exciting TBH.
Yeah. I don’t think a huge amount happens on the weekend on the GC unless they went really grass roots with their sports news (Nine usually only focuses on Suns, Titans and whatever Mick Fanning is doing).
Maybe they’ll just fill it with profile/puff pieces? “Will we see 250 story apartments? Find out Saturday 5.30”
I agree. The Gold Coast has gone beyond the status of being a regional area, with a population approaching 600k you’d class it as a semi-metro area (and dare I say could quite possibly become a proper second metropolitan area for Queensland in the future)! Definitely big enough to sustain one, possibly even two weekend local news bulletins on TV.
As for what sort of content you could fill 30 minutes worth of on the weekend, definitely a decent sports segment focusing on some of the stuff that Brisbane bulletins wouldn’t run with. Perhaps a “Week In Review” segment or other longer form stories you might not get time to do during a typical weeknight bulletin…
Half of the GC counts towards Brisbane’s population, so saying the GC will be it’s own metro area is debatable. It’s much more likely there will just be a long stretch of built up suburbs between Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and Logan within a few decades, which will be absolutely massive (basically the next Western Sydney).
