Seven News Content and Appearance (2015-2020)

Really surprised that they’ve canned Botica, first time they’ve used a different voiceover in at least 25, if not 30 years in Perth. Makes me wonder if we’ll hear him voicing over Nine’s Perth bulletin instead!

The new guy is far better.

Is the new voice over guy John Stanton

Sure is.

Yes surprisingly his V/O fits Seven News Perth so much better compared to the other bulletins.

Yeah this is the first time airing within the bulletin with the presenters. Usually I’ve seen them run it either the last break before weather or the first break of the following program.

Some caps of Seven News Sydney last night, which turned out to be Ryan Phelan’s final appearance at the network:

TV Blackbox is reporting that the Afternoon News in Adelaide will relocate to Melbourne with local inserts from Adelaide starting next month. Jessica Adamson and Tim Noonan will leave the network

VERY BIG NEWS.

Seven’s in very big trouble.

Sad to see Tim Noonan leave. His weather forecasts and reports are hilarious.

Maybe 10 and Nine could pick them up.

Rosanna for the weekend news?

Wow, the cuts continue. Really significant cuts there as well.

WOW.
that is shocking if true
Jessica has been with the Adelaide news room for a few long time? Surely Nine or Ten will jump on her.

And also given how apparently their Adelaide bulletin out rates Nine in the afternoon (albeit different timeslots).

Nine should JUMP on putting their bulletin back at 4PM.

Nine’s 6pm bulletin is doing quite well in Adelaide and that could be partially due to Nine News at 5pm as a lead-in. It would be better if Nine got Jess for weekends and move Will McDonald to Afternoon news fulltime.

Very good point. Either way, very promising situation for Nine.

Another opportunity may be even to split the bulletin into separate 4PM and 5.30PM editions (both half hour).

So we are now saying that having 5pm afternoon news has rated well? I would be all up for seeing what happens if they shift back to 4pm to compete against the afternoon news now.
And maybe the 5pm news isn’t necessarily the case? Maybe more are just tuning in at 6.

If true I think it’s a poor decision. You are better off going fully national than attempting to do something half assed to make it seem local.

How long do we think it’ll be until all 4pm Seven News bulletins are (re)merged into a national edition? Personally I’d be surprised if it doesn’t happen before the end of this year.

Hopefully you won’t mind me making just this one exception here:

While I’m not really that familiar with Seven News Adelaide, I know enough to understand that Tim Noonan is more or less South Australia’s equivalent to Mike Dalton and Allan Raskall. Here’s a golden opportunity to make him your own, Nine!

Now, back on topic…

Yep, I agree…especially since Melbourne and Adelaide are not in the same timezone and you know the SA segments won’t be live, since HSV quite understandably will want the set to themselves between 5pm and 5.30pm to prepare for Melbourne’s 6pm bulletin!

How is the Adelaide insert going to work in the new look afternoon news from Melbourne? Will it all be pre-recorded?

I would say we will end up with a Sydney bulletin and a Melbourne one. Both having Local inserts for the relevant market. (Adelaide Perth etc)

Just a quick report on the news ratings of the main bulletin in Adelaide.

Without getting too complicated - just for the 2020 ratings survey period up to the end of week 25 compared to the same for 2019 and the same period from 2018.

Net Comp to 2019 Comp to 2018
Seven 5% 14%
Nine 12% -3%
Ten 7% -13%
ABC 17% 21%
