Most of you in this forum seems to think that Seven would have problems filling their hour of news and mostly fill it with tabloid stories and thus think that it should be cut back to 30 minutes but what I’m struggling to understand is how Nine can do it so well. What is the content of their supposed ‘extra stories’ to fill their hour of news that makes it so different to Seven’s ‘tabloid’ stories that you are criticising and causes it to perform much better than Seven, at least along the East Coast. I don’t watch Nine so I can’t make the comparison.
Sorry, don’t see that outside of QLD. Nine News Sydney and Melbourne ratings are probably the equivalent of that of Seven News Adelaide and Perth as far as ratings are concerned?
There has previously been a lot of criticism of Nine’s hour by members here mainly because of a ‘Must Watch’ segment of ‘what you need to know’, which turns out to be some consumer ACA bullshit.
If they filled it with I don’t know, some world news, or more national news instead of faux-TT stories about consumer issues and other bullshit like that then it wouldn’t get reamed here.
Yet you want to change it to an hour like 9 News. Right now the point of difference for 7 news is it’s the only half hour of news, fast, punchy and straight to the point, it’s pretty good.
Lol, no way, once 9 News Sydney and Melbs smashes 7 News by nearly double for more than 2 decades and does so regularly, come talk to me about it.
Seems like Seven is being killed over by everyone here because of such things (I do have to admit however, that Seven’s content is a bit dubious) but then Nine does the same, yet people praise to the service. Just a small observation I’ve found during my time here on MS.
As far as I can tell, there’s been plenty of Media Spy commentary about the consumer stories on Nine News (especially the constant Aldi-related stories from Queensland) and it’s been overwhelmingly negative.
Well imo Nines news service has never been original they have always copied Seven and even Ten… if you really compare Seven News Sydney and Nine News there pretty much the same apart from one having a better presenter and the other not knowing how to present properly. As Ian Ross said pretty much everyone produces the same thing except it’s how you engage the audience and Nine is only succeeding in that
I’ve been quite overdue on this since the promo originally aired at the end of this week, but Perth have been using more of those new look graphics in a promo for tonight’s story now using the correct Gotham font, also using a more refined positioning of the “7 News” logo: https://www.facebook.com/7NewsPerth/videos/10154876468654072/

And on a random note, the guy you can see in the distance next to Dennis Cometti’s son is actually someone I know
Seven started Sunrise long after Today was on air.
I’m not saying Nine is any better (4.30pm news was a Seven invention), but both networks have been for a very long time emulating each other. They take what works from rival bulletins, which is good business sense.
I have been trying to find photos/details of Seven’s Melbourne newsroom/studio and came across the website of the company that has built quite a few sets for Seven and others.
Of particular interest, this alternative desktop pictured in Sydney.
I wonder what the reasoning behind It to change it to a more chunky desktop was?
It looks great on there! Interesting was the use of the colored lighting on the desk, probably has/had always had the capability on it. But was just never utilized.
They were also responsible for the Helen Kapalos Today Tonight set which can be seen on the website. A few tweaks to that set and it would have been OK, but still a disaster.
I think Seven News Sydney have completely stopped using the on-screen OTS graphic in favour of backdrop OTS’ and the side plasmas for sport. Melbourne did similar earlier this year.
