The legendary Mal Walden enjoying a decade of retirement has posted some good things in recent months to his social media (he’s rather active and sometimes comments well on other posts which might often be missed), these ones gained a lot of traction, the best a touching one for his old man:

Was mentioned tonight on HYBA that Larry Emdur got his first TV role reading the overnight news on Seven - never knew this - always thought his first role was working on various 10 news programs during the late 80s/early 90s.

There are a few YouTube clips (somewhere) showing Larry introducing overnight news coverage on Seven. I believe it was around 1987/88.

Seven News national late update with an earlier but rising Samantha Armytage, 2007:

[courtesy: Stargazr, YT]

Weather map shows 36 degrees in Melbourne, so if Jan, Feb or Mar, this would’ve been when Lisa Wilkinson was still hosting WS with AOK and Anna Coren hadn’t started on TT yet after she replaced Naomi Robson who departed at the end of 2006.
But if Oct, Nov or Dec, Armytage would’ve been co-hosting WS with AOK and presenting Seven 4.30 News and suddenly become a network identity, as well as IIRC Coren’s TT fill-in.

Is the control room background behind Samantha the HSV Master Control Room?

Correct - the backdrop is the BCM control room (also nicknamed the pokies’ backdrop - at least here on Media Spy)

Remember it well.

Not sure if this link will work for anyone but this is an article from The Daily Telegraph in November 2010 that reported Seven News very narrowly winning the ratings year in Sydney, twelve months after Ian Ross retired from the newsdesk.

It also cites that it was Nine’s plan to exploit Roscoe’s retirement when Peter Overton (then in his second year at the helm of Nine News, and was making significant progress) replaced Mark Ferguson in January the previous year (2009), on top of launching its “Experience” campaign the week after Roscoe retired.

Promo for Brisbane current affairs show ‘Local Edition’:

A bit like Anne Fulwood, Peter Ford really did get shipped around for the network didn’t he?

How long did this run for?

Did Seven Brisbane (in 2000) not broadcast Wheel of Fortune?

7 Brisbane were pretty rogue in 2000! They also had that weird opener to the news, before switching back to the red.

For everyone’s information, there is another Peter Ford that was also at Seven long before the Entertainment Reporter was.

Each local market had a unique opener for 7 News during the early 2000s
