if he was coming out of retirement, how did Nine “let him go to Seven”? He wasn’t employed by Nine
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Roscoe still under contract at Nine in some capacity (and still did fill-in presenting over Summer, etc.) between the time he stepped down as Today Show newsreader in Late 2001 and Seven News Sydney signing him up in Late 2003?
I’m pretty sure he was set to retire and then seven came along with the $$$ and the role which obviously changed his mind of retirement.
He was one of the best anchors. Poaching Roscoe from 9 was a master stroke.
in any case, Nine can’t stop everyone is has from moving on. They can put hurdles up, like anti-compete clauses or offer more money, but if Ross was only a bit player there (as it seems) I can’t see why Nine would move mountains to keep him. Seven clearly saw more potential in him and it paid off.
I can recall some discussion about Packer being unhappy he wasn’t warehoused like Brian Naylor, who was still under contract to GTV for years to avoid Seven hiring him.
Yes I do remember the rumour of Nine keeping (paying) Brian Naylor to stay in retirement. There was talk seven were after him in 2004 to replace Mitchell.
Given the mention of “Alexander Street, Smithfield” one would guess that partial report was most likely shown on ATN Sydney. But as a program, I wonder how long “7 Days” lasted for?
Mike Bailey’s weather with physical maps sliding in/out from the chroma key image is a classic.
The included ad breaks are also a rather interesting snapshot of the time with KFC selling Red Rooster-style roast chicken, The Sun newspaper, Coles New World and a promo for the premiere of Kingswood Country!
HSV used to have the same set up with its weather report
Given it was a Sydney show, strangely Kingswood Country debuted in Melbourne the week earlier, on 20 January.
That shoe/slipper commercial at 23:52 though - oof. You’d get beheaded for broadcasting something like that today.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly while seeing that ad!
One of the earliest news bulletins uploaded.
Different intros were used for each capital cities during the 1999-04 era.
Adrian Raschella…I remember him being a Sydney-based reporter at ABC News for a while.
Obviously I’m well aware that John Riddell was at Seven News Adelaide for many years until his 2019 retirement while Bruce Abernethy is still at SAS as their current weeknight sports presenter, but don’t recognise that weather presenter. Wonder how long she was at Seven News Adelaide for?
Cherylee Harris - started being the weekend weather presenter around '94 before finishing in either late '02-early '03
The maps used by HSV at least didn’t have to resort to handwritten numbers though they were probably blue-tacked on
