Seven Network - Programs and Schedules

Good question. To state the obvious, Seven not having the NRL rights would be one factor.

Speaking of which - does anyone remember, when Seven aired The Matty Johns Show, were they permitted to use NRL TV coverage? I wouldn’t like to think so, given Nine could not use any TV coverage for their Thursday night AFL Footy Show between 2007-11…

Nine don’t have AFL rights yet they have football players sometimes on SFS?

I think non Vic markets get live fox produced matches round 8-14. Rounds 1-7 are Fox exclusive Super Saturday live matches with 7 airing them on a delay in non vic market (each team non vic team has 3? Delayed games a season)

Think this has been allowed since at least 2012 as all AFL matches have been broadcast live on Fox Footy since then.

Problem with that is We Interrupt would have to be moved after a few weeks when the AFL season begins.

Re Seven not having the rights to the NRL, it’s such a non-issue. On Seven News, whenever they are showing footage of the NRL regular season, they always show Fox Sports footage and not Nine’s Coverage (obviously outside Origin and the Grand Final).

Once the AFL Season starts, i do wonder though if The Front Bar will revert to the AFL based show…? In the meantime, a few more current NRL players would be nice to appear. We did have Alfie Langer appear last week, and for me was good value.

And yes, that short lived Matthew Johns Show a decade ago. Very popular in AFL cities :stuck_out_tongue: Thus the show only lasting one season…

Ah, bugger, true. Although, they could air in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth (where the AFL is usually on 7mate although on Saturdays since covid in the former two markets that seems to have changed with particularly Swans and Lions being scheduled twilight or night and put on main channel).

Of course they will, this is just while we are in the off-season, they’re giving it a try to get a national audience, but if it doesn’t work they may not bother with an All Sports edition next year.

Would the ongoing pay dispute have anything to do with that? Aren’t they avoiding media where possible?

Not sure why Seven are persisting with Million Pound Pawn this Saturday.

Seven is joining Nine and ABC News in broadcasting the state memorial for Olivia Newton-John live from Melbourne’s Hamer Hall this Sunday. Mike Amor and Rebecca Maddern will host Seven’s coverage from 3.30pm AEDT.

EDIT: Peter Ford said on 3AW this morning that he would be the orange carpet interviewer, at the invitation of ONJ’s family.

The ONJ memorial service will be broadcast by Seven under their news brand.

Seven preferred to show horse racing rather than the opening race of the new Supercars season live on the main channel.
(the feature races on March 11 are Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, and Coolmore Classic at Rosehill Gardens)

That’s just crazy!! Clearly the money from betting is higher for Seven than the V8’s, but seriously stupid by Seven.

Question; besides the betting, how does seven generate any reasonable profit from having all these horses racing contracts when they are available on betting apps, multiple channels. :man_shrugging:

Hard to know; though I’ve commented before that when there is live racing being shown in AEDT states, Brisbane is showing The Morning Show weekend editions, suggesting the infomercials are more profitable.
