ALl upfront info
Absent from next year:
Most programming had already been announced including new formats Stranded on Honeymoon Island and Once In A Lifetime. There’s also First Dates plus Jim Jeffries and Friends featuring The 1% Club’s host.
A couple of music docos also feature that sound like potential blockbusters.
Little info is provided of Seven’s returning shows except that they’ll be back.
The sports focus is on AFL and Cricket but again not a lot of detail. AFL will feature a pre-season Full Sweat to run after The Front Bar.
New for news is a one hour midday bulletin that means The Morning Show will get an extra hour. It will also push back Seven’s reality encores by one hour and mean the end to Seven’s traditional midday movie that have been a feature of the network’s daytime schedule since last century.
Some programs that haven’t made the “returning” list (yet)
Dream Home
Made in Bondi
Talking Footy
Australia’s Most Dangerous Prisoners
Animals Aboard with Dr Harry
SAS Australia
Ultimate Escape
Weekender/Sydney Weekender/Melbourne Weekender
Overall, pretty much nothing to exciting - Once in a Lifetime looks to be somewhat promising, however, that seems to be the only exciting thing in the schedule for this year.
I was looking for Seven reviving the Aussie version of The Traitors. That faint hope is now dashed.
Hopefully someone can bring it back another year - was a pretty good show, and something different that wasn’t the same renovation/cooking/dating formats being done to death.
More initial thoughts:
Seven has acquired The Americas, possibly through its relationship with NBC Universal rather than the BBC. Anyway, that breaks Nine’s stranglehold on the big budget BBC nature documentaries (most of which are narrated by David Attenborough).
New overseas dramas streaming first on 7plus is a good idea and should bring new subscribers to the platform.
The Rise and Fall of Kings Cross is produced by Shadow Productions which also made Crime Investigations Australia for Seven. It was first revealed at Seven’s 2024 upfronts, 12 months ago.
Is 7 in 2025 going to consist of News, The Chase UK & The Chase AU, and AFL plus a reality show three nights a week from 7.30 til 9.30?
Because that’s what these upfronts sound like.
Where’s the depth.
Based on the photos provided by Seven, it looks like the actual upfronts were held either on Monday or yesterday, but the details were not released until lunchtime in Sydney and Melbourne today.
It was mentioned that there would events held throughout this week, with the main media session today.
Seven will present its 2025 showcase at a “reimagined” Upfront event to advertisers, media buyers and press in the week of November 11 at its Eveleigh headquarters, with a media session on Wednesday 13 November.
On the topic of local lifestyle, it has previously been confirmed that South Aussie with Cosi has been renewed until 2027, however, also no word about the Discover show (previously Discover with RAA Travel), or Reel Talk (Fishing Show).
Here is @blackbox’s take on the 2025 line-up:
So when I post the TV Tonight article it gets deleted but when someone else posts it, it stays?
Yeah not very impressed or surprised by Seven’s upfronts. Just the same old as usual.
There’s a reason why they are called the roast chook network
